Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting (via PFT) that the Chicago Bears have released wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad. It's the end of a disappointing three-year tenure in Chicago for Muhammad, who arrived with great fanfare (and a six-year, $30 million contract) after he was released by the Carolina Panthers in February of 2005. At the time, he was coming off a tremendous season in which he caught 93 passes for 1,405 yards and 16 touchdowns. But Muhammad has struggled in the Chicago offense with too many dropped passes, and he's never been nearly that productive with the Bears. His struggles have been aided, of course, by a bad group of Bears quarterbacks.
If he wants to, Muhammad can probably catch on somewhere else. But he's about to turn 35 and hasn't been particularly productive the last three years, and retirement may be the best option.
Schefter is also reporting that the Bears have extended the contract of defensive end Alex Brown.

1. I am a Bears fan, always have been always will be. I am shocked with this news, honestly I expected a QB to be released before Moose, but that's the NFL for you. Expect the unexpected and deal with the situation. Moose you will be missed, thanks for the memories, good luck to him in the future if he decides to stay in the NFL, but beyond that, go Bears!
