1958 Commercial: 'Where You Find Pro Football, You Find Marlboro Cigarettes'

How much has professional football changed in the last half Century? This much:

That video, courtesy of Hogs Haven, comes from 1958, and it extols the virtues of two great American institutions, professional football and Marlboro cigarettes. It's a reminder of a different time in America, a time when NFL players smoked in the locker room at halftime, a time when an advertising slogan like "you get better makins" apparently made sense, a time when racist caricatures of American Indians were still tolerated.

OK, so we've still got some work to do on that last one, but still, we've certainly come a long way in America. I don't expect the phrase, "Where you find pro football, you find Marlboro cigarettes" to make a comeback.

Oh, and in case you're wondering, the reporter in that video? His name was Chris Schenkel. He died of emphysema.
