Jeff Goodman of Fox Sports is reporting that Kelvin Sampson was informed early today that he will no longer be the head basketball coach at Indiana.Although an Indiana spokesman responded to the report by saying, "I don't know that to be true" and said that no official announcement is scheduled, Goodman reports that the official announcement will come Friday, at the end of the university's seven-day investigation into allegations that Sampson repeatedly violated NCAA rules.
The firing of Sampson is probably the end not only of his Indiana career but also his NCAA coaching career. It will be hard to see any school giving Sampson a third chance after he broke NCAA rules at both Oklahoma and Indiana.
Assistant coach Dan Dakich is expected to take over effective immediately and through the rest of the season.

COnvienent that IU allowed him to ooach the 2 biggest games of the year before firing him. I bet if they played Purdue and MSU this week, the investigation would have taken 14 days.

the timing was not unjust -- why make the players suffer more for something their coach has done. he was a good coach, just didn't make good decisions on recruiting. the kids didn't need additional pressure at a critical time in their schedule. the coach will go and the team will play on. stop with the sour grapes.

Yup, you are exactly right Matthew...and if they were in good position to win at least a share of the big ten title he would coach the year out. Oh wait...

Sampson can take him, his wife and his entire family out of the state of Indiana and the city of Bloomington. The next time he decides to coach, and hope he can't,he needs to think before messing with other teams recruits. 80% of his calls were to players commited elsewhere. Most in the Big Ten. He can kiss my ass on his way out the state, sooner the better. Justice served.

Stop penalizing the institutions and put the sanctions on the coaches. If a coach knows that irregularities will get HIM suspended for 2-5 years, they will ensure that they follow the rules. It will mean nothing to Kevin Sampson if Indiana is penalized and he can move on to a program that doesn't care that he was responsible. If he can't be hired by another institution I'm sure he will make extraordinary steps to ensure it doesn't happen.

Coaches teach accountability to their players. Now it is time for the coach to be accountable.

Hey IU fans we have learned in Tallahassee its only a game - nothing personal. Let the contract language play out and move on with the season!

As of this time,he's not been fired yet, but he will be. They are still meeting. There are several players who say they will not play if he is fired,it's BS if they allow the players to be any part of the decision, if they do then they can go too.
