For the second straight week, Boston's most prominent sports journalist, Bob Ryan, has taken to ESPN's Sports Reporters to bash Patriots coach Bill Belichick:
Responding to a question of whether there's a chance Belichick could be suspended and barred from coaching the Patriots next year, Ryan said, "Yes, the answer is, certainly, there's a possibility that he won't be coaching next year because things keep tumbling out."
At this point, I'm not ready to believe that Patriotgate will lead to Belichick losing his job. But for someone as attuned to the sports scene in New England as Ryan to suggest that it's possible is rather stunning. After the jump, more of Ryan bashing Belichick.
Ryan stops just short of calling Belichick a liar:

1. If everything that has been said about Bellichek is true the he should be banned from coaching in the NFL.If only some of it is true then he should be suspended for a year.

2. SADLY, IT IS CONFIRMED ONCE AGAIN THAT THE WIN-AT-ALL-COST MENTALITY UNFORTUNATELY IS ALIVE AND ALL TOO WELL. NO MORAL FIBER TO BE SEEN IN PRO SPORTS.
TEACH KIDS GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP, THEN TAKE THEM TO A BALL GAME WHERE BOTH BENCHES UNLOAD INTO A BRAWL. A HOCKEY GAME THAT BREAKS OUT DURING A FIGHT OR A NFL
GAME WHERE THE UNDEFEATED TEAM BENDS THE RULES / CHEATS TO WIN. OR NBA OFFICIALS BETTING ON THE GAMES. GOD BLESS AMERICA, WE NEED IT!

3. PS: AFTERTHOUGHT....THIS DOESN'T EVEN TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION OLYMPIC ATHLETES DOPING. STEROID USE IN ALL SPORTS. LOOK WHAT ARE WE TEACHING OUR YOUTH!

4. Hey FB FAN how can you say the win at all costs mentality is alive and well in the N.F.L.
Have you already forgotten about the Chicago Bears?
No team can do less with less then the Bears!

5. Just what we need!!! Another lame sportswriter making dour predictions without one iota of proof or responsible quote that what he has to say may be true. Americans are deserting newspapers in droves. Newspapers are cutting back and closing all over the country. Yet the current crop of wags keep spouting their irresponsible journalism to a suspicious nation. Come on, guys, report what you know, not rumor, speculation and hearsay!!! Is that too much to ask??? So far, Belichick has proved to have taped one team, and he has paid the fine!

6. Can you believe that this guy was actually strongly supporting the Patriots and Belichick on the Boston Globe all the way until the Super Bowl? And now he's suddenly the biggest Patriots basher in town? Wow, I can sure trust him.

8. FYI MDS, he's not exactly the most respectable sports reporter in the Boston area. He's pretty good with Baseball and Basketball, but when it comes to Football there are many more well respected reporters in the Boston market. Since he got his local sports show that mimics PTI his credibility has tanked even more.
He's stuck taking the "popular view" rather than reporting and commenting on facts nowadays.

11. I've read much of this writers sports stories, and this is not the first time he has reported fantasy sporting news. I believe he is losing fan interest and needs a jolt, so why not report something, anything that might stir interest. "WHAT A JERK"

13. Look at it this way -- Bill B and the Pats have given those of us not from Boston a team to root against every week of the season. People haven't been this excited since JR Ewing went off the air!

14. Tony; Question if what B.B. did was cheating as is said. Why was it ok for jimmie johnson to do the very same thing when he was couch of his superbowl team, he said he did on t.v. WHY was it not cheating then. He said it didn't help so he stoped.
Next on the list of things you nor the nfl have seem any proof that he taped the rams walk threw before their superbowl game, but he is already guilty. Why? the couch of the denver broncos he is a nice guy good football man, well his organization waS CHARGED with taping the pratices of the chargers
the week before they played. Also a flim of this was sent to the nfl. why wasn't it bad then why didn't they do anything to mike s. bill is bad bad bad but everyone else is ok. WHY?

15. Oh I like him too, he's harmless with these comments, but everyone around the New England sports scene pretty much understands that his objectivity doesn't shine through anymore. He's getting the national sports "bit parts" and those are always the one's where someone makes outlandish comments. He's filling in that capacity quite nicely, but his credibility around here has been hurt. At least Mike Felgers comments are backed up with some analysis of evidence. Even if his analysis is waaaaay more complicated than the game actually is sometimes. You could say Bob Ryan analyzes evidence to come to his conclusions, but then he must have been hit in the head for him to have generated such a difference in opinions from one year to the next. I hope his quest to become a permanent national sports media icon works out for him, cuz he really is a nice guy.

17. Here's another guy who doesn't think Belichick should finish the year.

19. Ryan is jealous of John Tomase of the Herald, who broke the "rumor" about taping the walk through.
Ryan is not that well respected, just trying to keep his name in the limelight.
Now Ryan is playing up the rumor via ESPN even though he works for the Globe.
It's a sad day for journalism when rumors are reported as fact with no proof.
