NFL analyst Sean Salisbury is leaving ESPN, he and the network said in a joint statement today.In the statement, Salisbury said this:
"I want to thank ESPN for 12 great years of talking football on TV and the radio. I have grown as much as I can at ESPN and decided to expand my horizons. I have created a brand and it's time to expand into other opportunities in TV, radio, Internet, publishing, movies and public speaking, among others. My resume speaks for itself as a football analyst, and I believe I can talk all sports with the best of them."It is not clear what Salisbury plans to do with the brand he has created, but it's hard to believe he could find a more prominent outlet for his work than the Worldwide Leader.
ESPN's brief statement said, "Sean Salisbury has made many contributions to our efforts for the past 12 years. We thank him and wish him all the best."
Salisbury had brief stints as a quarterback for the Seahawks, Colts, Vikings and Chargers. He has also served as play-by-play man on BattleBots and appeared in the movies The Benchwarmers and The Longest Yard.

1. Good f'in riddance. I'm surprised Fanhouse isn't doing more to rip him here, as you guys have in the past, but I guess it's a nice tribute who has been sort of the face of ESPN over the past few years.

2. Anyone really think Sean "Talk Louder Than Everyone Else" Salisbury REALLY left on his own. I think it had more to do with his embarrasing one of the NFL's best journalists a couple of weeks ago with his asinine remark calling him Cryptkeeper.
Also, he very much pales in comparison to several of the other analysts, namely Mark Shlereth and the Cowboys former defensive back.
Somewhere along the line Salisbury assumed out yelling everyone else was the proper ticket to stardom.
Good luck to him marketing his "brand".

4. Yeah, good riddance to this fool. It always seemed to me that it killed this guy to ever say anything good about the Giants or even the Jets. The guy is anti-NY. He never gave the Giants a chance all down the stretch, this so called expert. He's probably picking the Giants to lose their 2008 season opener, regardless of who the opponent is. Don't let door hit you on the way out.

6. That's almost silly, him claiming he's leaving to broaden his horizons. It's either a money issue (most likely) or else he's basically got tired of playing second fiddle to John Clayton. Salisbury has never hid his disdain for the little guy.

7. I'm glad to see him go. Now if they would get rid of Stephen A., Vitale, Bob Davie and for the love of all that is holy LOU HOLTZ we'd be getting somewhere. Also, they should forbid Berman from any more lame nicknames.

10. This is an obvious "Quit or your fired" scenario. And to say that he has created a brand is the highest form of delusion of grandeur I honestly have ever heard. The best part of this is that John Clayton doesn't have to check his brain at the door to debate this braggart and moron.

14. With all these talking heads the networks hire for football analysis I always ask myself one question. Do I learn anything from him? In Salisbury's case the answer is no. Clayton might be kinda dweeby looking but he's informative. And this pictures of his package thing.....what a BUFFOON.

15. I HAVE NEVER ENJOYED LISTENING TO SALISBURY AND BERMAN ALTHOUGH I AM A FAN OF ESPN. SALISBURY BROUGHT NOTHING TO THE TABLE. RECENTLY BECAME TOO OPINIONATED, MOST OF HIS REMARKS HAD NO SUBSTANCE. NO GREAT LOSS. ALTHOUGH I AM A DALLAS FAN I ALSO FEEL THAT SMITH DOES'NT BELONG IN THE BOOTH.

16. This guy was a jerk. He had the football knowledge of a roll of athletic tape. Clearly he had the goods on somebody at ESPN because 12 minutes was too long of a career for this guy. This is the greatest football news of the off-season for me!

The only problem, I heard ESPN hired Chris Carter to replace Sean. I am sure the first thing he will report on is the conspiracy therory as to why he did not get into the Hall of Fame this year.
