The St. Louis Rams were trying to find salary cap space by asking several players to take pay cuts. Receiver Isaac Bruce was one of those guys (he said no).
So, the Rams released him yesterday. Today, he is a San Francisco 49er by signing with the NFC West rivals for $6 million over two years :
Even at age 35, Bruce, one of the leading receivers in NFL history, could be a starter with the receiver-thin 49ers. He obviously knows the Martz-designed offense, the 49ers have a definite need at the position, and Bruce is still productive, coming off a 2007 season in which he had 55 catches.
A four-time Pro Bowl performer, Bruce has 942 career receptions for 14,109 yards and 84 touchdowns. The former University of Memphis star has six seasons with 75 or more catches and eight seasons with 1,000 receiving yards.
Bruce is reunited with Mike Martz, who was the offensive coordinator (and later, head coach) of the Rams during their "Greatest Show on Turf" days. Now Martz is the offensive coordinator for the Niners and will be able to use Bruce's experience and knowledge of the offense to help get San Fran into this offense quickly.

1. Isaac we miss you already. Thanks for the memories and the class you have always carried yourself with. May our God always bless and keep you.
It is a crime to send the the highest seniority Ram (last of the L.A. Rams) back to California, especially to play for our biggest rival.

3. Ike!! What did you do!! Didn't you know that you were supposed to retire as a Ram! If you had no choice but to leave the team that brought you into the NFL and give you the opportunity to become what you are with all these fans that adore you and appreciate you for everything you have done (especially acknowledging the L.A. Rams fans during the Super Bowl 34 celebration), why did you have to go to the FortyWhiners! In case you forgot, we are supposed to absolutely hate that team.
I know Mike Martz is there and it might be a good match for you but that's besides the point. Besides, that offense ain't going to work without a good quarterback to get the ball to you. Oh well, best of luck and hope to see you back wearing the horned helmet before you call it quits because I know you still have two or three years left under your belt.
