This is suspicious in a completely lame sorta way:
Police have removed a noose found hanging on a subdivision sign where an announcer for The Golf Channel used to live. ... The noose was found at the entrance to Tilghman Estates, which includes the description, ''Home of Kelly Tilghman, Golf Channel.''So why would this be a threat against Tilghman exactly? Yeah, she made some absurdly imbecilic comments about lynching Tiger Woods earlier this season, but Woods seemed unconcerned, the Golf Channel suspended Tilghman for two weeks, and, most importantly, white people generally aren't offended by nooses. Something about never having been slaves, or the regular targets of town beatdowns.
Police told The (Myrtle Beach) Sun News that they haven't received any threats against Tilghman's relatives in the area.
I'm guessing a bunch of rich kids too young to have developed their inevitable suburban coke habits are behind the prank, which explains the lack of historical context. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into it.
Whatever, if somebody's going to send Tilghman a message, it should be about her abysmal performance as a Golf Channel analyst. I've tried to give her the benefit of the doubt, especially after the whole "let's all lynch Tiger!*" fiasco, but enough is enough. Shane Bacon says what I'm thinking pretty much every time I watch Tilghman:
I've had this conversation with just about everyone I know that equally loves golf, but Golf Channel broadcaster Kelly Tilghman sucks. I mean, she really, really sucks.It's not that Tilghman can't put together a sentence (hi, Emmitt Smith!), it's that she adds absolutely nothing to the telecast. Bacon points out these gems from last week's Accenture Match Play Championship:
"Is this a tougher putt than that of (Arron) Oberholser?" -When discussing a two-footer for par of Tiger WoodsLook, I understand that golf isn't chocked full of excitement for the full six hours of a typical telecast, but guys like Jim Nantz and Mike Tirico (before ABC gave up on its golf coverage) somehow managed. And it's not like only men can do the job. If I'm the Golf Channel, I let Tilghman go back to Academy Live and think about getting Judy Rankin in the booth with Nick Faldo.
"Yesssssssssssssssss" -after Tiger tapped in the two-footer (sigh)
"Vijay has never made it past the second round in this even so this is the makings of a special week." (Um, yeah, Vijay will probably remember getting past the second round of a tournament for the rest of his life)
* slight exaggeration

1. Kelly Tilgman is by far one of the premier golf announcers on TV ... by far better than most of the others. If you dont like her because she is white, then that is your problem, not hers.

2. Is this being investigated as a possible hate crime?
