Days after an attempt to trade for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers fell apart, the Cincinnati Bengals have now (probably) acquired an upgrade to their defensive line.Michael Smith of ESPN.com reports that the Jets and Bengals have agreed on a trade that would send defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson to Cincinnati in exchange for the Bengals' fourth- and fifth-round picks in this year's NFL draft. The trade could still fall through, as Robertson still needs to pass a physical and agree on a contract extension with the Bengals, but Smith reports that both of those things are expected to go off without a hitch.
Smith reports that the Bengals plan to use Robertson as the penetrating "3-technique" tackle in coach Marvin Lewis's 4-3 defense. That's a role for which his skills are well suited.
There have now been five trades of defensive tackles involving eight different teams in the four days since the NFL free agency period started: In addition to this trade, Rogers was sent from the Lions to the Browns after the trade with the Bengals fell through, Corey Williams was traded from the Packers to the Browns, Kris Jenkins was traded from the Panthers to the Jets and Marcus Stroud was traded from the Jaguars to the Bills.
UPDATE: Robertson's agent says there has been no agreement on a new contract, meaning the trade could be off.

Great move. So we get Jenkins for converting a 3rd into a 4th. (We gave up a 3rd and 5th for Jenkins and got a 4th and 5th for Dawyne.)Not bad at all.

let's see. robertson was a high first round draft choice...no. 4 i think in the league...a few short years ago. now, in typical jet draft choice fashion, and with similar success, he is traded for a bengal 4 and 5. another great draft by our jets.
