So why did Brett Favre decide to retire? His agent, Bus Cook, suggests that Favre could have been convinced to stick around if he had thought the Packers were showing enough interest in him, but that the Packers' lukewarm feelings made Favre decide to hang up the cleats. From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:"It's my opinion," Cook said of the Packers' lack of interest. "I know he wants to play one more year. I do not know much conversation there was (between Favre and the Packers) and I don't think anyone forced him to make that decision. But I don't know that anyone tried to talk him out of it."
Cook said that Favre feels physically and mentally capable of playing at least one more year.
"I think he wanted to play," Cook said. " I think he's still got it. He knows he's still got it. I think he felt he could play one more year. I don't know if they told him they really wanted him to play. That's just the feeling I got."
Cook was asked whether he thought Favre could be talked into returning: "I don't know," he said.
If Cook's take on this is correct, it sure sounds like Favre could be convinced to play in 2008. But other comments from Favre, including those reported by ESPN's Chris Mortensen, indicate that Favre just wanted to walk away. Until Favre speaks publicly, a lot of people will be left wondering.

It won't be the same without him. He does have the BEST Regular Season Resume of any QB that has ever played in the NFL. I wish he would come back to add to it.

Alot of people think he's a bum, or just should have hung it up last year. As a die hard fan of him and the Packers it really hits hard and if people think alot about it, he is the greatest. Brett will be sadly missed and if its true what his agent says, it might be true. I see him as a great player who will be missed and a icon of the Packers. Think what you want, but if the Packers would have shown more interest in Brett and maybe signed Randy Moss, I feel he would have stayed. But as it always happens, you move on and try and make fans happy and see changes. Brett will be sadly missed by all us fans...

Who are these A_holes with the disparaging comments.
I'm living in Forty Niner land and the only thing that gets me through a season is the Packers, whether they win or lose. A successful season for me is if the Pack loses every game and then kicks the Niners butts. There are a lot of Packers fans out here and I would personally like to thank Brett for all the great efforts he's made over many years.
The team still gives me a lot of stuff to brag about for the next hundred years. I have been a fan since the early forties when Isbell and Hutson reigned!!!

It doesn't really matter if you liked him or not you have to marvel at his accoplishments. He stayed dedicated to one team instead of going for the money like most everyone does. I say it,s hats off to a man who has what America use to have, GUTS.
Thank You Woody

Brett Favre has had a great career. He has a Super Bowl ring. But maybe it is time to give Aaron Rodgers a chance. He also looked good when he played last year. If he wins, Packer fans will love him and move on. Take it from a die hard Broncos and John Elway fan. We shall return also, hopefully with Cutler.

Brett plays the game the way it should be played, toughest QB to ever play the game and he is definitely in my top 3 of all time behind Elway and Unitas. However, this retirement will be short lived. He is an emotional guy who made an emotional knee-jerk decision but he is still way too good and his team is too good to not give it another shot to get to the Super Bowl. The Packers should have invited Randy Moss to Green Bay and not let him out of the building without signing a contract---just the way I used to sell cars! At any rate, Green Bay can still do it without Moss---but they still need Brett!
