How obvious is it that USC freshman O.J. Mayo is only stopping by USC for a year before he leaves for the NBA? So obvious that USC coach Tim Floyd told Jim Rome that it would be "irresponsible" for him to ask Mayo to come back for another year:
As much as it would be nice to think "student athletes" are actually students, Floyd is right: There's no reason at all for a player who can be a Top 10 draft pick to stay in school.
In other news, Floyd says Mayo scored a 29 on the ACT, which would put him in the 95th percentile, and that Mayo is the only player he's had who tested out of USC's freshman English requirement.
Although Mayo shoots too much for my tastes, there's no disputing that he's a great talent. And apparently a smart guy, too.

He's right. It's irresponsible to ask a student-athlete to continue to pursue his, you know, degree. Time to end this charade. Draft them out of high school and put them in the Developmental League for three years.

Another perfect examp;e that college BB is just the minor leagues for the NBA, same as college football is for the NFL. The school gives a young man a free ride and he thanks them by jumping to the money as soon as he can.

I Think Floyd is correct, The System is Flawed, The NCAA that is. ONe thing i just dont understand is where do you guys get that mayo Shoots too much? its an all too often label that people put on. If you really look at the numbers of all players, Mayo is not that far off, and if you look at his shot selection, its all within a flow' of the game, I mean all players at some point try 'tough shots' I just think its so unfair that Mayo Gets that Label. Ryan Anderson, The Pac-10 leading scorer attempts 14 shots a Game to Mayo's 16.4. and When You 'Historically' Look at Scorers and shot attemps, All of the players have high shot attemps, i.e Lebron's 50point game, stat line 16-30. The Iverson's, the Kobe's and Even Michael Jordan had high shot attemps, Signaling out Mayo as a Gunner' or shoots too much simply doesnt make sense when u look at the game and a player from a historically statistical standpoint.
