MLB Poetry Previews: Chicago White Sox

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

Today's poet is White Sox blogger Jim Margalus of Sox Machine.

The road not taken

Two roads diverged by dismal wood,
The obvious choice was to rebuild
With a thin farm system long he stood
And a roster and bullpen that just weren't good
Hopes for two thousand eight had chilled;

But he took the other, leaving many perplexed,
As two Central teams had better claim,
He dealt one, two, three, four, five prospects;
Not thinking of twenty-ten, only the next
And many thought Kenny had gone insane;

First came Cabrera, with small-ball appeal,
And then after booting Pods and the Punter
He sought a big bat and glove in center field,
He rolled out the carpet, no plans to yield,
But it was the Angels who signed Torii Hunter;

The sting of rejection! and Kenny did dwell,
Until later to the bullpen he turned;
Four years for Linebrink, two for Dotel
To deliver Ozzie from Mound Visit Hell,
But the gap in the outfield left the Sox feeling spurned;

Kenny had missed on landing his big fish;
But for the price of Fautino, Sweeney and Gio
The general manager had gotten his wish
Lo and behold! the sound of the Swish
And pennant hopes are slightly more real;

But it's up to Contreras, Danks and Floyd
For Kenny's plan to make an iota of sense
Injuries and pitfalls they'll have to avoid
To surpass Minnesota, Cleveland, Detroit
A lot must go right to make any difference.
