It's mid-March, and that means that it's time to get out to break out the "late Spring Training injury" tally-sheet. Today, we'll be adding John Lackey (no relation, or at least no relation that I know of) of the Angels, who's out for at least a month with a triceps strain. He joins Kelvim Escobar on the DL, which actually means that Angels fans are getting kind of worried. Mike Scoscia, however, is not. "Right now, we're being tested," Scioscia said. "I don't think anyone could have said definitively where we'd be without John Lackey and Kelvim Escobar ... We're going to be fine.
"Even without [Lackey and Escobar], we have a rotation that can go out and win on a nightly basis and a bullpen that can hold leads, and an improved offense. We can win ballgames, and we're going to go out and do that."
This, honestly, is terrible news. Of course, I'm biased because I try to pick John Lackey in fantasy league out there and then point out that we have the same last name and might possibly be distantly related (but probably not). When it comes to the Angels, though, they're probably going to be OK. Their division isn't going to be terribly competitive and Jon Garland, Jered Weaver, Joe Saunders, and Ervin Santana should be able to hold things together until Lackey and Escobar make it back.
