Seth Greenberg Calls Virginia Tech's Critics 'Certifiably Insane'

Virginia Tech lost a tough, hard-fought game to North Carolina today, a loss that will likely keep the Hokies out of the NCAA Tournament. But Virginia Tech coach Seth Greenberg doesn't want to hear that:

"If you dont' think this team is one of the top 65 teams in the country, you're certifiably insane," Greenberg said. "Because I don't know who else could come into this environment, basically play a road game, whoever else is on the bubble, and play those guys the way we just played them.... Obviously, the only thing we didn't do is win the game."

As Dick Vitale correctly noted, it's not the top 65 teams that make the top tournament, it's the top 34 at-large teams as well as the 31 conference champions. Is Virginia Tech one of those 34?

It's close. Virginia Tech's RPI is 55. They don't have any wins over the elite teams in college basketball, but they do have some solid wins over good teams. If the Hokies make the Tournament, I won't object. But it's likely that they'll miss it, and not because the Selection Committee is "certifiably insane."
