Daisuke Matsuzaka and his wife Tomoyo became proud parents once again on Saturday. That's great news not just for the Matsuzaka family, but also for the thousands of Japanese fans who were hoping to watch Dice-K pitch during Boston's trek to Japan. From
the AP:
The Red Sox right-hander's wife gave birth Saturday to their second child, their first son. That allows Daisuke Matsuzaka to travel with his teammates to Tokyo on Wednesday and allows the team to discard its contingency plans for its four games there.
"I think it's a relief for Dice-K knowing that there was uncertainty certainly up until early this morning," Boston pitching coach John Farrell said.
Honestly, I think it's also a big relief for the Red Sox, as well. With
Curt Schilling on the shelf and
Josh Beckett nursing an achy back, the Red Sox already have enough questions in their rotation without worrying about healthy pitchers missing time. Now, it won't be an issue.
