You can't blame Carnell "Cadillac" Williams for always looking on the bright side of life. (*whistle*) He might be talking a little too big, though, for a running back for a torn patella tendon."I would love to be ready for training camp. Ready for opening day. Of course, that's my goal. ...
"No doubt. I think there is a great shot to play this season. I feel good about it. If my body is responding right and I feel good, no, I don't feel like it would be rushing me to play in 2008. If I'm having complications with it and things aren't going right, maybe (I'll wait.)"
Williams wouldn't be the first NFL running back to make a comeback from a torn patella tendon. Correll Buckhalter tore his patella tendon in 2004 and 2005, but he's managed to be a solid backup the last two years, averaging about 4.5 yards per carry during that period.
The key word there, though, is backup. If Williams returns, that's probably what he'll be -- less like a Caddy and more like that old Ninety-Eight you turn to when your whip is in the shop. Still, that would be more than Charlie Garner gave the Buccaneers after his patella tendon fell apart in 2004, and it would certainly be a positive step for Williams.

1. Cadillac will do very well as a backup running back this season as he recovers from his injury. At the 2009 season when he is fully healed he will be fantastic self again.
