Today was quarterback Matt Ryan's latest Big Day: the Boston College pro day. Of course, Ryan has had previous Big Days: his senior season, the Champs Sports Bowl, the Combine, etc.
Not surprisingly, there were plenty of NFL eyeballs on Ryan this afternoon and Chiefs head coach Herm Edwards, who may or may not be interested in Ryan with the fifth-overall pick, was on hand anyway (presumably to scout all the other talent in attendance). He offered these thoughts on the best quarterback in the draft, and, according to some draft nerds, the best player available:
"I thought he pressed a couple times, trying to throw the ball a little too hard," Edwards said. "That's generally what happens with quarterbacks, when you get the media there. It used to be 10-15 years ago, the workouts, five people were there. Now, depending who you are, what school you're at, and where people slate you being drafted, it becomes this. Which is kind of good, because it puts a lot of pressure on the kids, and the game everyone plays, there is going to be pressure on them.
You look at that, and also understand that they're going to press some. He pressed some throws, but the thing this guy has is his ability to win. That's the thing you like about quarterbacks -- some guys win, some guys don't. You can look at all the stats, arm strength, you can look at all the different things, but at the end, can he win games? This guy has done that."According to Reiss's Pieces, Vikings vice president of player personnel Rick Speilman agreed with Edwards' assessment, but added that Ryan moves better than advertised. Which is exactly what NFL Network's Mike Mayock said last month.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see what impact, if any, Ryan's performance will have on his draft stock.

Herm Edwards??? His opinion along with Carl Petersons is a mute point! They both don't know how to win so who cares what there opinion is!!

Uhh... I'd have to say that given Herm's been extremely involved with college scouting from day 1 and has hit a home run with every first round pick he's made (Hali, Bowe), I believe he's in a pretty good position to judge players. Herm was a scout before he started coaching too, by the way.
And as for not knowing how to win, given that he's made the playoffs in half of the seasons he's coached, I think he knows how to win.
