But why we hate is as important as what. To learn what kind of hater you are, please: Consider the two images that will inevitably appear on your screen during the tournament. Click the image below which turns your stomach first.
Coach K Working a Ref -- Cursing, lobbying, whining his way toward an advantage.
Dick Vitale Riding a Cameron Mosh Pit -- Emblematic of ESPN's worship of a few rich kids who camp for tickets; the contention that Duke fans invented face paint; and the absurdity of the phrase, "Dick Vitale, analyst."
Which do you instinctively hate more:

1. Duke. In North Carolina we refer to 'em as the Un. of New Jersey at Durham. Ain't a bad tag.

2. I admit I'm a Duke hater. Any self respecting Tarheel fan is though. Go Belmont!!

3. Face it people. The reason you hate Duke, may be because they win with kids who play great basketball AND are academically strong. When they're done with basketball, they continue on in the upper income brackets. Very few schools can make that claim.

4. Come on....Duke's not THAT easy to hate. Wouldn't you like your son playing with a superb coach who always does things the right way, graduates MOST of his players, (although in this day and age it's quite difficult to see players through their entire four years of eligibility), come away with a fantastic education both on and off the court?? I certainly would. I admit I'm an alum, but I still don't get why so so many hate us.

5. Hate is a word that should be stricken from the english language. Coach K is a proven, dedicated, genuine, caring human being.Having said that, GO MICHIGAN STATE !!!!!

7. I grew up in Durham, graduated from UNC but don't hate Duke. Now nothing gives me greater pleasure than seeing UNC beat Duke, but that doesn't mean I would pull for Al Qaida against Duke. With the exception of Wake Forest where I also greaduated, I probably would pull for Duke against most other teams, especially against non-conference foes. In this years bracket, I took the risk of picking Duke to upset UCLA because I want to see UNC beat Duke in the NCAA championhsip game!

8. the media hates duke because its predominately rich and white, as evidenced by the lacrosse team witch hunt a few years back. Clearly, there is alot to hate about a school that has high academic standards, graduates virtually all of its athletes, and is known for producing character NBA guys rather than street thugs. hate on.

9. I hate their fans, which include my uncle, my cousin (his daughter) and now her kids. It's not a college, it's a CULT...

10. I've found that most "DUKE HATERS" are simply rejected applicants for admission to the school. Bitter at having to settle for Carolina or one of the other "Universities for the MASSES." If you take the size of the DUKE student body (a mere fraction of those OPEN DOOR Mega Universities), and compare the number of WINNING seasons, divide that number by the number of players that actually graduate, the numbers will speak for themselves. DUKE maintains a FAR Superior Athletics and (what do people go to college for?) Academics Standard that NO ONE, can even compare to.
So to all you DUKE HATERS out there, go ahead, HATE Away... Chances your current BOSS or your Future Boss graduated from DUKE and is still wearing his NCAA Championship RING!

14. Its funny that I saw this, the other day this was the topic of discussion and for some reason I just born a Duke hater, I respect coach K but for some reason I just cant show Duke any love what so ever. But then again I don't have any logical sports affiliations so to speak, im from Connecticut, went to Uconn and hate Huskies basketball lol (Hey the price was right for in state). Lets Go GEORGETOWN!!!

15. How can anyone hate such a class guy as Coach K ? He has adjunct professor status in the Business School and stands head and shoulder above most basketball coaches as an all round leader and gentleman !!!

16. I hate the entire ACC. There, how's that? Any conference that gets as much preferential treatment as they do from everyone (refs, analysts, ESPN, etc) deserves to be hated.

17. The west coast also hates Duke. They are media favorites, arrogant, and to be honest they choke more than they win. The ACC is overrated. The Pac 10 will have a lot of success in this years Tourney. Go Bruins.

18. Let's be real the reason so many people hate Duke ( myself included )is because their players can do no wrong on the court, it always seems that the refs. manage to look the ohter way in crucial situations when it comes to duke players but always seems to make the calls against the opposition. Now ask yourself if Duke is/was soooo good why do they need help? and if Coach K is such a great coach let him coach a school that does not get 5 to 6 Mcdonald all americans each year and see how well he coaches ( that showed last year when they lost in the 1st rd.and needed help this year to get by Belmont)have duke play against the real athletic teams and let the game be called even from the beginning to the end and everyone will see that duke is not as good as the NCAA wants everyone to beleive...........

19. why hate the dookies?? the same reason you hate the way wealth, love of self, and greed destroys and poisons our world. After growing up in Chapel Hill, I could list a hundred very good reasons to despise the wealthy, arrogant, and spoiled northern brats transplanted to Durham (including coach crybaby). I think the best example of their royal blue darkness can be traced back to the beginning, where the evil empire first began. The school originally was founded and named Trinity College. Trinity College was a humble, quiet, Christian school, which my grandfather attended and supported in the 20's. When the duke family donated millions of dollars (profits generated by tobacco money)to the school, it decided to change the school name form Trinity to duke. All for the power and love of money. So basically they sold out the name Trinity (as in Father, Son, Holy Ghost)and replaced it with the duke family name. They erected a giant statue of that guy named duke (looks erily similar to Saddam Hussien's statue)at the entrance, like we're supposed to honor and praise him. That is not the only shameful reason, but do you really need any others?? Dook sucks and will always suck. Thank God 8 miles down the road there is a bright sky blue light shining in Chapel Hill, from those Carolina faithful who represent hope and all that is good in our world. God Bless the Tarheels! 2008 National Champions!

20. Duke Sucks, they always have. The comment about them graduating most of their players. Well UNC actually graduates more percentage wise. Coach K whines just as much as any other. They will be back in Durham soon, and thats a good thing. "Go Tar Heels"
