After Tom Brady's implosion against the Giants in the Super Bowl, the Patriots apparently have more holes to fill than just at linebacker and in the secondary. Bill Belichick hasn't been able to talk Doug Flutie out of retirement, even with the promise of a chance to win a starting job. Sure, Matt Cassel's on the team, but let's be honest, he was a career college backup for a reason: he's not very good.
Which is why the Patriots will look for their next franchise quarterback via the draft. It's no secret that Belichick is unhappy with all of Brady's off-field exploits* and is looking to phase him out of the offense. So who are potential options? Well, New England has the seventh-overall pick and if Matt Ryan's still on the board he has to be a possibility. More likely, though, Ryan will be long gone and the Pats will look for a quarterback in Round 2. And that explains this:
The Patriots recently sent a high-ranking member of their coaching staff to meet with [University of San Diego's Josh] Johnson for a private workout. Scouts often say that Division I-AA players must dominate if they are to receive serious NFL consideration, and Johnson did that [in college].Word on the street* is that if New England had retained their 31st overall pick, they would've taken Johnson then. As it stands, they'll see how the first round shakes out and either take Johnson with the 62nd pick, or trade up and nab him if there's an early run on quarterbacks.
Either way, Brady's career is over in New England*. The only question is how long he has left. Silver lining: he can sign with the Jets and live in New York City full time. Or even better: sign with the Giants, serve as Eli Manning's backup ... and still live in New York City full time.
* complete fabrication

2. Best fiction I've read since Stephen King's last book. Implosion during the Super Bowl? Because his receivers hadn't practiced pinning the ball against their helmut? Assante Samuel makes the pick, or the Giant's offensive line gets the holding call on Eli's "escape" during the least artistic winning drive in Super Bowl history and all conversations are moot. Let's give credit to a Giant's defensive line - an injury that severely handicapped Brady's ability to plant and adjust - and some cosmic karma for New England arrogance. Tom Brady is on the short list of Unitas, Montana, Staunach, Bradshaw, Elway, Marino, and PEYTON Manning. Pats will be back in the Super Bowl and Eli will be watching his big brother during the play-offs.

3. Attollo, you couldn't come up with any more excuses why the Giants beat the Patriots?

4. The patriots will be lucky to win 10 games this coming season,they lost a lot of key players and there defense is pitiful! They will be watching the GIANTS win it again!

6. anyone who says the Pats are washed up, please pass me some of what you're smoking. The only loss that'll hurt was asante "get paid" samuel on the defense...randall gay? please he's been on the bench more with injuries than he's seen the field. our defense is old, but everyone wants to make a big deal out of this offseason, it's one key loss, get used to it, we're here to stay

9. Attollo, you're a great example of why people hate Patriot fans. Play the what if game becuase you didn't get the breaks. The guy made the catch plain and simple just as the the Official ruled an incomplete pass against the Raiders or did you forget about "that" break. You whine like a school room sissie. Grow a pair and stop crying. You lost, now try being a man about it.

10. The Patriots are in deep trouble. Belichick's desire to phase out Tom Brady won't sit well with Tom Brady, the Patriots fan base, and Kraft. It could lead to locker room division. The same thing happened when Walsh tried to phase out Joe Montana with Steve Young in 1987-88, leading to Walsh's retirement in 1988, as Debartolo forced him out as Debartolo was loyal to Montana. The Spuygate mess could end in Belichick being banned from the NFL, and the Patriots defense is over the hill, with Bruschi, Seau, and others past their prime, and they lost Asante Samuel, Randall Gay, and Roosevelt Colvin.

11. I cannot believe that some people actually took this blog seriously. If the * complete fabrication didn’t give away all the jest in this peace then nothing would, you are dense. Come on he wrote about try to get Doug Flutie out of retirement people.
Then to top it off a couple of people write what deems to be apologetic responses on why the Giants won the Super bowl. The injury to Tom Brady was not that bad for one simple reason: it would have affected every throw not just some of them. Please give credit where credit is due the New York pass rush got to him. They put pressure on him and he did feel comfortable enough in the pocket to get his pass attempt off as good as he should all of the time. Holding can be called on every play so if you want it call on a specific play please say who did the hold. Also it is simple, Eli was not in the grasp. The defender did have his shirt in his hands but that simple spin move Eli did to get out shown the defender was not in control. The defensive player has to have total control of the quarterback and the only outcome of the play will be a sack for it to be in the grasp. One last thing that was an amazing catch took concentration, skill, and physical ability to make. So please people lighten up it was a great game and the Giants deserve to credit which they earn by defeating the Pats.

12. Tom Brady would love to play in NY. The Big Apple has the kind of sophistication level just not found in Boston. The Met, Fashion Week, MOMA, Wall Street,its there.

13. there is now way this is true. Tom Brady is still the best quarterback in the NFL today. He is the closest thing we have got to the heros of the past. He is still great. Peyton manning has always had a better team, yet the Patriots always beat him year after year. The unequal part is the quarterback.

14. Replacing Tom Brady as quarterback with the Patriots is like replacing Tiger Woods as the best golfer on the planet. Good luck trying.

16. Wow! There is a lot of hating going on out there! The Pats are a great team.. you can not deny this. Whether or not they have lost a lot of players this year does not matter. This happens EVERY year... ask Ty Law... ask Lawyer Milloy... we did not need them. The Patriots were 18 and 1 last year. 18 and 1. Granted, they lost the WRONG one to another great team. Kudos to the Giants! They did what NOONE else could do last year (and NO, close does not cut it)... they beat the Pats. "Lucky" catch or not... they won. The Pats had a lot of luck last season themselves. I love my Pats... ALL THE WAY FROM TEXAS and have for the last 33 years... good times and bad (a lot more bad then good). I will take 18 wins... Super Bowl or not... no one else has ever done that... NOT EVEN THE 72 Dolphins. They only got 17. haha (Kidding... another great team in that era) The Pats win stay winning as long as Belicheck stays around... and they'll do it without cameras! HAHA Get over yourselves folks... My Pats spanked Everyone last year... the Giants just got even.
