A-Rod Doesn't Take Canseco's Bait (Yet)

Alex RodriguezEarlier today, a review of Jose Canseco's new book, Vindicated, appeared on the internet, and within a matter of hours Deadspin posted scanned images of the actual pages in which Canseco alleges to have introduced Alex Rodriguez to a steroid dealer and admits to holding a grudge against A-Rod for apparently showing a bit too much interest in his Canseco's former wife. Ken Davidoff of Newsday jumped on the story and asked A-Rod about the allegations:
When first told Tuesday morning that Canseco had leveled accusations against him, Rodriguez asked what Canseco had said in addition to his previous accusations. Told that Canseco had written about introducing him to a known supplier of steroids, Rodriguez said, "I really have absolutely no reaction."
Canseco also accused A-Rod of coveting Canseco's former wife, Jessica, before Rodriguez married his wife, Cynthia.

When Rodriguez was told about that, he raised his eyebrows and asked, "He said that in his book?" then said, "I have absolutely no comment."
Not too exciting, but what did you expect? A-Rod, Inc. is much too polished to simply blurt out a juicy retort in front of a microphone, but eventually he's going to have to address these rumors, whether it's a prepared statement or (not likely but I have my fingers crossed) by taking legal action against Canseco.

I'm curious, though: does anyone think A-Rod's contract with the Yankees might include some kind of out-clause for the Yankees if he's found guilty of using performance-enhancing drugs? Given the current climate I don't think it would have been too unreasonable for the Yankees to insist, especially considering it's the largest deal ever signed.
