ESPN Doesn't Like the Titans Receivers

Vince Young may be to blame for some of the Titans' passing problems, but he's got a lot of company.

ESPN just ranked the top 64 wide receivers in the NFL. Tennessee had only one receiver make the list--Justin Gage ranked 59th. Considering that there are only 60 starting receivers in the NFL, the list makes the argument that several teams have No. 3 receivers that are better than the Titans No. 1. And when you look at the list, it's hard to argue that Roydell Williams and Eric Moulds were being slighted by being left off the list.

Tennessee has several clear needs heading into the draft, but wide receiver is the one that jumps out as a glaring, gaping hole. Adding Justin McCareins is nice, but this team needs a No. 1 receiver. Unfortunately, receiver is one position where very few rookies make an impact--just ask Calvin Johnson, who came into last year's draft as one of the best wide receiver prospects in years, but struggled to adjust to the speed of the NFL game.

Steady improvement from Williams and Gage should help the Titans have a better receiver corps in 2008 than they did in 2007, but it's still a long ways from where it needs to be.
