Hideki Matsui Gets Married and Wins a Bet

Hideki Matsui missed yesterday's exhibition game but it wasn't an injury that forced him from the lineup. It was love, sweet love. Godzilla took a day trip to the Big Apple and tied the knot. Mazel Tov!

That wasn't the end of the good news for Matsui, however. He also took the lead in a bet he made earlier in camp with bachelor teammates Bobby Abreu and Derek Jeter. Whoever got married first would be the winner and it seems Matsui either kept his plans well hidden or moved up his wedding date to get the edge on the other two. Matsui certainly found a savvy way to pay for that wedding.
"That's not hilarious, that's sad, that's real sad," Jeter said. "If he wanted the money, all he had to do was ask. He didn't really have to do it."

The amount of the bet was not forthcoming nor was much information about the new Mrs. Matsui. The outfielder offered that she's "a 25-year-old civilian and had been formerly working in a reputable position at a highly respected company." Her hair is described as present while her hobbies include activities of a general nature which may or may not include fun.

The Yankee clubhouse was united in their congratulations for Matsui and Alex Rodriguez, in particular, seemed interested in offering the bride a celebratory kiss. At least that's what Jose Canseco told me.
