Flip Saunders Thinks Rasheed Wallace Will Coach in the NBA One Day

In totally unrelated news, Flip Saunders has lost his freaking mind. Although, admittedly, I have been laughing for the last 20 minutes or so, just thinking about the prospect of Rasheed Wallace in some mock-turtleneck or suit (for some reason he's still wearing a headband in my mind's eye) on the sideline, politely asking the gentleman in the black and white striped shirt if he could pretty please be a little more cognizant of the fact that some of Rasheed's players were being treated unfairly by the other gentlemen in the paint.

Or something like that. But Saunders apparently is serious and the Pistons seem to refer to 'Sheed as "Coach Wallace" in some sort of normal nickname fashion.
As for that 'Coach Wallace' label? Well, there are a few who could see Wallace patrolling the sideline someday.

'We always talk about it,' Saunders said. 'Before it's all said and done I think he will. No one thought Larry Bird would get involved in anything and Larry got involved. It's the ones sometimes who you least expect it, those are the ones who end up jumping into it full force.'
Look, 'Sheed is one of the few basketball playing graduates of North Carolina that I don't despise -- in fact, his ridiculous on and off court attitude/antics are what make him one of my favorite players -- but no freaking way. I mean, this is the same guy who coined "CTC" (Cut that Check) and has led the league in technical fouls for several seasons. Then again, his attitude since arriving in Detroit has been more or less reformed, but what happens when 'Sheed gets a team that's not winning?

Actually, you know what -- who cares? 'Sheed should absolutely be a coach of an NBA basketball team; it's certainly no more ridiculous than Bill Simmons trying to run the Bucks. In fact, Wallace's reaction to his team losing might be the greatest thing that could happen to the NBA and coaching since Isiah took over the Knicks.
