Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting (via PFT) that the Oakland Raiders have signed free agent defensive end Kalimba Edwards, formerly of the Detroit Lions.
Edwards has played in the NFL for six seasons, all with the Lions, and he's been maddeningly inconsistent. At his best he looks like one of the quickest edge pass rushers in football, and he's capable of occasionally making plays in which the opposing offensive lineman just looks silly. But he's not at his best all that often, which is why the Lions let him go.
Of course, the Lions, being the Lions, misjudged Edwards after his rookie contract expired and signed him to a four-year, $20 million contract extension two years ago. Last season Edwards opened the season as a starter, and coach Rod Marinelli said he thought Edwards had the talent to lead the league in sacks. But he was benched midway through the season and by the end of the year wasn't even active on game days. He finished the season with three sacks.
With the Raiders, Edwards has signed a two-year, $5 million deal. He should compete for a starting job in Oakland.

1. This could be a good pick up for the Raiders. I hope it works out.

2. It doesn't bold well for Raider Nation when they sign rejects from the worst team in the NFL for the last 5 Years. Glad we're rid of him in Motown.

3. Al Davis or the "OldMan" as I like to refer to him, is going out and filling all the holes in his "D" with veteran "FA"s....And Why???...So he can use the first pick and perhaps another low pick yet un-acquired to add spark to his "O"....And now just who do you suppose the "OldMan" is so excited about...I have 3 names for you...."D-Mac"..."Run-DMc"...."McFabulous"....

5. A good pick-up. He has talent and came pretty cheap. If he works out, great. If not, then not much is lost.

6. Keith, how many times have the Raiders got players that many swore were out of their prime, were complete busts for previous teams, saved average players from crappy teams only to become a key contributer to the Raiders success?? Lincoln Kennedy ring a bell? Or as of late Rich Gannon? This could be a huge steal. Lets be realistic up until last year the Lions have sucked for the duration of his (Edwards) time with Detroit. Something tells me he busted a Randy Moss and only tried when he wanted to because, well... THE LIONS sucked. Spell him with Richardson here in Oakland. I think he will be a beneficial pick up.

7. It doesn't matter. If the Lions found a cure for cancer, it would cause deadly side effects. They are beyond inept. A poisonous carbuncle on the forehead of Michigan. Oh if only the league could lance this evil boil, before Ford and Millen make their own loathsome squeeze play and send us yet another season of oozing puss for entertainment. Thankfully our mayor is going to provide entertainment this year, but still, the nightmare that is football in Detroit not only continues, but spreads to the west. Woe to those on the fault lines.

8. I agree with Spencer, why not give Edwards a second chance and see what happens. Its not like the Raiders signed him to a 4 yr 20 mil extension.

9. So Sorry Detroit....I guess we sent that "Viral Infection" your way with Matt Millan....We have infected the entire league....NFLPA....HollyWood...SportsNetworks....You name it and the "Raider Xs" are there....It's up to you to find an "O" to extinguish the "X"...
