The Minnesota Vikings will open the season against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football on Sept. 8 on ESPN, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting (via PFT).
The game will be the first of a doubleheader to conclude the NFL's kickoff weekend, and it's expected to be played at Lambeau Field as the Packers usher in the post-Brett Favre era. ESPN will undoubtedly beg Favre to show up; it's possible that the team will use the occasion to retire Favre's number.
The NFL has also announced that the Redskins will visit the Giants in the Thursday night opener, and the league is expected to announce today the other nationally televised Week 1 games. The second game of the Monday Night opener will presumably feature a pair of Pacific time zone teams.
The entire 2008 schedule is expected to be announced next month.

Perfect stage to usher in the new era of Packers football.
The new team will be the same as the old team and continue their dominance of the Vikings.

I hate that they play division games in Week 1. These games are essentially worth 1 and a half in the grand scheme of playoffs (if you get a W, a division rival just got a L, and sometimes its not if you win, but if someone else loses).
We really want the Aaron Rodger story to begin with a team that has been seeing GB for 2 games a year??? They cant protect the kid and ease him into it.

Favre Fest 2008 at Will's Northwoods Inn in Chicago Il - It's time to celebrate and honor the career of our favorite (or favre-orite) legendary quarterback, Brett Favre. We're going to do it up right - Will's style! We'll have free hot-dogs, burgers, brats, cheese and sausage trays, complete with cheese curds, and plenty of give-aways during our free "half-time" raffle. We'll also serve our usual gameday beer specials including $9 pitchers and $5 32-once cups of Lite and Leinenkugel drafts. AND, we will be showing "Favre 4 Ever" and "Superbowl XXXI" on all of our TVs! We're also going to unvail the huge framed photo that we took in the bier garten with Frank Winters back on December 30th! This will be an all day celebration, but festivities will officially get rolling around 2pm. Thanks Brett! Annette Summersett will be apearing.
