Two players on the Portland State basketball team are in a Mexican jail after an incident that left a man hospitalized with injuries described as internal bleeding and "his jaw broken into pieces."According to published reports, it was Portland State senior Scott Morrison who beat the man up, while Portland State junior Jeremiah Dominguez (pictured) was arrested for trying to flee police. Morrison and Dominguez both played for Portland State against Kansas in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Dominguez led the team with 11 points; Morrison scored four.
Morrison and Dominguez have not yet been charged. Fan IQ reports that The Oregonian originally posted an article saying both players were facing possible attempted murder charges, but that article was edited to say it is not known what charges they'll face.
Dominguez is a 5-foot-6 point guard who was named Big Sky player of the year this season. Morrison is a 6-foot-11 center who was named the league's defensive player of the year.
The school's athletic director said, "We are surprised and disappointed in the actions and poor judgment our student athletes have shown in this situation. Prior to this, they conducted themselves in a positive manner within our program. I am disheartened to see them put themselves in such a bad position.''
