Next Logical Stop for Chris Henry: Dallas

There are a bunch of "ifs" in this little scenario I've concocted, but assuming Chris Henry doesn't spend the rest of his life in jail, and that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell doesn't suspend Henry for the 2008 season (the former is less likely than the latter, but given Henry's predilection for cuffings and stuffings, probably not by much), a logical landing spot for the troubled wide receiver could be -- wait for it -- Dallas.

Shocking, I know. I don't say this just because the Cowboys are trying to acquire Pacman Jones, but also based on their history of taking chances on players with character issues. Terrell Owens is the most obvious example, even though, oddly, he's never once been arrested (not even for fake trying to kill himself). Dallas also signed Tank Johnson while he was still in the can and the cops haven't heard from him since.

The Cowboys, unlike every other NFL team (as far as I know, anyway), has the infrastructure in place to handle NFL malcontents. Calvin Hill serves in that capacity, and given Dallas' success rate with not only keeping these guys out of trouble but getting them to be productive on the field, I'd say he's doing a pretty good job.

And not only that, but the Cowboys are in the market for a big-play wide receiver. All else being equal, Henry's probably the best wideout still available, either through free agency or the draft. Of course, hand-waving won't magically spring Henry from the joint or prevent Goodell from giving him the Pacman treatment for 2008.

But, hey, if the Cowboys can wait a year, Henry is worth the effort. At this rate, though, Calvin Hill may need to hire an assistant.
