Carl Edwards Dominates, Wins Samsung 500

Carl Edwards won his third race of the season Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway after crossing the finish line first in the Samsung 500.

Edwards, who has also won at California and Las Vegas in 2008, led 123 laps of 339 to score the win over Jimmie Johnson.

Late in the race, it looked like Edwards would cruise to the victory with a safe lead of over one second when Martin Truex Jr.'s No. 1 Dale Earnhardt Inc. Chevrolet blew his engine with four laps to go. On the green-white-checkered restart, Edwards kept his No. 99 Aflac Ford in front and led the final two laps.

The win puts Edwards 10th in points, 184 behind leader Jeff Burton.

As the field came to the checkers, Clint Bowyer got turned on the frontstretch and pounded the wall, but slid across the line in 10th. Denny Hamlin called it a "stupid move by the 07".

Kyle Busch finished third, Ryan Newman fourth, and Denny Hamlin 5th.

In the point standings, Burton leads Kevin Harvick by 59 points with Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Tony Stewart rounding out the Top-5.

Only 6 caution flags waved on a mostly quiet day at TMS that was dominated mostly by single-file racing. Unfortunately, the new car has seemed to have produced more of that type of racing than anticipated.
