Two sources say the Indianapolis Colts think very highly of Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco and would strongly consider taking him with their first pick in the draft, which is the 59th overall, if he's still available. That might sound ridiculous, seeing as the Colts have a guy named Peyton Manning, but I've now heard it from two people with knowledge of the situation. Apparently the Colts view Flacco as the quarterback with the best upside in the draft, and they think he could develop into an excellent backup to Manning and eventually his successor.
That said, I don't think it's going to happen. I think Flacco will be off the board by the time the 59th pick rolls around, I don't think the Colts would trade up for any quarterback, and I think in the very unlikely chance that he's still available with the 59th pick, it's possible that a player who's higher on the Colts' board will still be available as well. But the Colts' interest is, if nothing else, a reminder of why the draft is so unpredictable and therefore so fun.

Seems like a waste of a pick to me.

If Joe Flacco gets drafted by the Colts he looks like the type of quarterback who could succeed Peyton Manning in the future. But it is as likely to happen as the Detroit Lions winning the Super Bowl this season.
