Vikings Up Offer for Jared Allen, Herm Edwards' Plan One Step Closer to Reality

The Minnesota Vikings are clearly very serious about trading for Jared Allen. Word on the street has the team upping it's offer for the Chiefs defensive end to include their 17th and 73rd picks in 2008, and a second-rounder in 2009.

Jeebus, that's a lot. Allen's one of the league's best defensive ends, and he fills a very specific need for the Vikings, but, I mean, is he worth a first, second, and third-round pick? Not for a team that hasn't been to the playoffs in four years, I'd think.

For Kansas City, Herm Edwards' plan of rebuilding through the draft seems to be coming together. He's even brainwashed owner Clark Hunt into believing it:
"But the focus will always be on the draft. We need to make sure we have the people and the process in place that allows us to be successful drafting every year. We've seen that if you go two or three years with poor drafts, that eventually will catch up to you. There's nothing you can do in free agency to make up for that."
Just curious, but who's to blame for those two or three poor drafts? Oh, as long as we're blaming Carl Peterson for stuff, might as well include this truly depressing nugget: the Raiders' odds of winning the Super Bowl next season are 60-1; the Chiefs? 80-1. That's right, Al Davis > Carl Peterson.
