ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen is reporting that the Cincinnati Bengals have rejected the Washington Redskins' offer of two draft picks for Chad Johnson.
The Redskins offered its first-round pick, No. 21 overall, and a conditional third-rounder in 2009 that could escalate to a first rounder if Johnson and the Redskins hit certain performance levels, the sources said.
The report also says that Cincinnati has also turned down trade offers from the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles ... and that this wasn't the first trade offer from the Skins.
The Bengals have long made their stand on the fact that Ocho Cinco isn't on the trading block. Everyone else is making the stand that they are willing to take a problem off their hands.
Cincy's wall comes from the fact that a deal means they take an $8M cap hit (which could be spread out over the next two years). They've also been telling suitors that Chad wants a new, more lucrative deal done wherever he goes ... hopefully to scare everyone off.
And that's how you do business in Cincinnati: drive down the value for your player that doesn't want to be around.

1. Ummmm and why are the Bengals the doormat of their conference?? Is it better to have a malcontent in the lockerroom versus a "sure thing" 1st round draft pick (Skins have # 21)? The Bengals should ask the Skins to also pay the additional 8M cap hit... (Snyder can afford it).

2. Marvin Lewis just denied receiving ANY trade offers for Ocho Sucko in his pre-draft presser. He stated that ESPN's Chris Mortensen in "error" in his reporting.
I'm sure Marvin is lying and Mort is correct. The Bengals are a joke of an organization. They would rather spite Johnson, than better their team in the draft. Typical Mike Brown.
With that being said, it will be interesting to finally see an owner stand up to one of these greedy players. I have a hard time believing Johnson will actually sit out the season though.

4. Yeah, $8 million is a lot of cake, and more, importantly, it's not my cake, but this is a classic case of addition by subtraction. Personally, I'd take the 'Skins 2008 draft pick and the conditonal 2009 3rd rounder, and cut my losses. With the 21st pick the Bengals cand grab a WR like DeSean Jackson, Limas Sweed and plug him into the lineup, and make Housmanzadeh the focal point of the passing offense. Add Rashard Mendenhall with the 9th pick, you've got a nice shot in the arm for your offense. Granted Chad's not the only "problem." It's a start. Too bad Ellis won't be there at 9th, their defense could use the shot in in the arm.

6. Doormats of the conference? They won a division, 3 years ago and then missed the playoffs on the last day of the season 2 years ago, then went 7-9 last year. Granted not great, but hardly doormats. Lets not lose sight of the fact that Cj has had his contract done twice already (and he demanded so much money up front, the cap hit is now 8 million). It is much easier for you simpletons to pretend these are the Bengals of the 90s, but I feel the need to interject some facts.

7. Chad may have better luck finding a new home if he dumped his agent. What team wants to sign a guy who "if he has a good year" has an agent who shouts in his ear" you out performed your contract and the team owes you a new contract". Be a man and honor your word, you signed a contract that you agreed to no one held a gun to your head. What happen to guys like Rod Smith, Jimmy Smith, ect. quite WR's who let their play do their talking? I have yet to see any of "Agent Drew's" clients pay back any money when they under preform, (Jervon Walker can you hear me)? There are alot of WR's who would love to catch some Carson Palmer passes. I hope they give Chad a good case of Keyshawn, sit out and watch your great skills fade away.(see Tampa Bay)

8. The Three Stooges ran their football team better than the Bengals run their franchise.
