Alabama State University is mourning the loss of one of their basketball players. Deshean Porchea collapsed and died moments after a pickup game on campus."Our campus is shocked and saddened by Deshean's sudden passing, and our hearts and prayers go out to his family and friends," said ASU President Joe A. Lee. "Deshean will be remembered for his tremendous intensity and friendly personality, both as an athlete and as a student. He will be deeply missed."
Porchea was just finished playing a pickup game when he walked off the court and suddenly collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where attempts to revive him failed. He was pronounced dead at 4:27pm. There will be an autopsy to find the cause of death.
He was just 19 years old.
Porchea was a reserve sophomore guard for the SWAC regular season champions. He averaged just 2.1 points per game as primarily a three point shooter (28 of his 41 attempts were from behind the arc).
