If you're a fan of those split-screen "There Can Only Be One" advertisements that have been running during the playoffs, you're not alone. It turns out that none other than Time (sorry, "TIME") magazine is biting the league's steez for an upcoming issue. The official word that just hit my inbox from the L:
The NBA's 'Where Amazing Happens' Playoff campaign, There Can Only Be One has inspired the cover artwork of TIME Magazine's most recent issue, which will hit newsstands on Friday, April 25.Quite a feather in the NBA's cap, eh? I mean, it's not every day that a sports league gets to influence the national media's coverage of a presidential primary.
The issue features Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. The magazine gives credit to the NBA Campaign on the Table of Contents page: "ON THE COVER: PHOTO ILLUSTRATION INSPIRED BY THE 2008 NBA PLAYOFF AD CAMPAIGN"
Though I've got to say that this year's slate of high-quality promos might just barely make up for the Black-Eyed Peas and Pink spots the league foisted upon its viewers in recent years ... years during which, admittedly, I was an employee of the Association. Coincidence? Yes. By Greg Oden's beard, I swear to you it was a coincidence.

The creator of this year's playoffs campaign should get a raise. Everyone is talking about those ads.
I decided to make a few myself. You can see them here: http://blogs.wncn.info/wsutton/2008/04/24/there-can-only-be-one-series-it-started-with-the-nba-but-now-its-web/

I just heard commissioner stern on the dan patrick show talking about this. He said the NBA marketing department was pretty proud of themselves today. www.danpatrick.com

I agree that the Obama and Hillary is like a playoff series.
Would you say this is the best NBA playoff marketing campaign ever? If not what is? Or just NBA campaign? Be like Mike?

I really like the idea of this add campaign. It also just shows how much of an impact it has for America. The fact that there is a Time magazine cover planning on being made is remarkable. Having Obama and Hillary is interesting because it is almost like they are in the playoffs right now because they are always neck and neck to see who will look better and move on. My favorite commercial was the first one that they made with Shaq and Kobe Bryant. I thought it was the best because they are two very good players that are no longer playing together because of issues on and off the court. This would tie in very well with the idea of the Time cover because it is almost the same characteristics. Here is that commercial for those of you that do not remember it. http://youtube.com/watch?v=w4kO0OTX_Mc Which do you guys think is the best?
