Pittsburgh offensive tackle Jeff Otah has a major feather in his cap: He outplayed Chris Long when Pitt played Virginia. But he's more than just a one-game wonder, and the Panthers will be glad they traded up to get a second first-round pick and select him in the NFL draft.
Between Otah and Jonathan Stewart, there's no question that the Panthers' running game got a lot better today. But it's a bit of a surprise that the Panthers traded up for someone other than a quarterback. It's on you, Jake Delhomme.

1. We got our OT, but gave up the farm for him

2. Come on. We didn't "give up the farm" for Otah. When Ditka traded his entire set of draft picks to move up and select Ricky Williams, THAT was giving up the farm. That third rounder we picked up from the Jets is essentially like a late second rounder and then we have another in the third along with a fifth rounder a sixth rounder and three seventh rounders. It'll be interesting to see what else happens with the Panthers' draft in the next 24 hours.

3. i just cannot agree with the belly-aching about jake. He is a great quarterback who understands the system in place at carolina. some fans just cannot be pleased, like the fans who were crying for eli manning and tom couglin to be released in the spring of 07. these first round picks will be great for the panthers if the guys can get out of training camp. jake is a good quarterback and will take the panthers back to greatness in 08.
