Remember midway through the 2007 college football season, when people were talking about South Florida as a potential national champion? Things didn't quite turn out the way the Bulls hoped, but cornerback Mike Jenkins was the single biggest reason South Florida had such a big season.
Jenkins could always be counted on to shut down the receiver across the line from him, and many draft analysts ranked him as the best corner in this year's class, so it was a pleasant surprise for the Cowboys that Jenkins was still available with the 25th pick in the draft, where the Cowboys moved up three slots to take him.
There are some concerns, especially his 2007 arrest on charges of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence for an incident outside a bar in which police used a taser on him. But most accounts say Jenkins is a good guy, and there's no doubt that he's a good player.
