Heading into Day 1 of the draft, there were plenty of teams in need of starting quarterback help. Green Bay was not one of those teams. Which is why they took Brian Brohm with the 56th overall pick, of course. Obviously, this means that Aaron Rodgers has been put on notice even though, you know, he has yet to start one NFL game.
Actually, it has absolutely nothing to do with Rodgers and everything to do with who's behind him on the depth chart. Currently, that distinguished list includes Jerry Babb and Dalton Bell. Beyond that, Daunte Culpepper could potentially be the short-term -- and I stress "short" here -- answer.
With Brohm, who the Packers liked as a late first round pick according to NFL Network's Adam Schefter, Green Bay fills one of their handful of needs. And when finding a backup quarterback is at the top of the off-season to-do list, you're in pretty good shape. The team addressed another need, cornerback, four picks later with Auburn's Patrick Lee.
Not a particularly sexy first day, but that's sorta missing the point: day-after draft grades are meaningless, so just because the Chiefs are destined for a couple gold stars, and the Packers aren't, it won't mean much when the season starts.

1. Aaron Rodgers will either succeed Brett Favre quickly or else Brian Brohm will be the next Packer quarterback that will be the next best thing.

3. Brohm had a down year, you've got to be kidding me. Brohm had a great year. It was in the combine where people starting showing doubts. I am not a Packers fan (actually a Steelers fan), but I think the Packers got a steal with Brohm. Green Bay has got to feel good about their QB situation right now.

4. Gotta mostly agree with ya, Ryan [sigh, hate that!].
Not a knock on Rodgers at all. Everything about developing a backup.

5. Good article. I am a Packer fan and hope that Green Bay also addresses the offensive tackle situation. Two good players (Clifton & Tauscher) playing hurt in their 30's. The Pack are th youngest team in the league and otherwise look wquite strong heading into the regular season. Eveybody misses a Hall of Famer but time does move on. Good luck Brett, it's been great.

8. i'm also an avid packers fan and although brohm had a down year last year i do think that there is something about this kid that has the makings of a great NFL quarterback. i watched him play for louisville(on tv)many times and i think that he can be a great acquisition to the packers...very good pick!!

9. briam brohm didnt have a very good year last year because they got a new coach that didnt like quite a few players attitudes so he was benching them i mean how can you bench two of your best recievers at the same time?? louisville was picked to win the championship at the start of last year, their new coach will not last long if he keeps doing what hes doing, PACKERS DID REALLY GOOD FOR THEM SELF BY PICKING BROHM!!, gotta give brohm a year or two to read the nfl defenses

10. Brian Brohm is a good person from an excellent family. I am glad he went to the Packers. The best thing about the draft being over, It is now time to
see if the so called experts were right. and also,
YOu dont have to listen to Jaws and Ego ridden Kiper
talk anymore. Now it is time to see what happens on the field. Brain is teachable, which will go along way in Geen Bay.

11. Brain is a good man from a good familly . he is teachable. and this counts in the NFL . I know part of his family since I am from Kentucky. The best thing about the Draft being over is that we wont have to listen to Jaws and Kiper a lot now that it is over. are those Guys in the Hall of Fame, I dont recall.

12. Neither of these two will ever replace or succeed Favre. I honestly don't think there has ever been or will ever be a better all around Qb then Brett. Now I dont me stats but his are pretty damn good anyway.. I mean the total package on and off field, and what he stands for, and his leadership on and off the field. He's made a few mistakes and faced a few bumpy roads ... haven't we all ? But he overcame every challenge he faced with class... There will never be another Brett Favre..... PERIOD...
