It's become the trend that every NFL team wants to have two good running backs, but does any team need three?
Tennessee's decision to take East Carolina's Chris Johnson with their first-round pick is the third time Tennessee has taken a running back in the first two rounds in the past three years. Either the Titans feel like they missed on Lendale White and/or Chris Henry, or they're planning to try to bring the wishbone back. Hey, Lendale White at fullback, Henry and Johnson at halfback, yeah that may make some sense! Well at least until Vince Young gets broken in two.
It's easy to defend the decision to not take a wide receiver in the first round--there are still going to be some good wide receivers around in Round Two, but it's hard to see how another running back is close to the biggest need for the Titans. Actually, Johnson's hands are good enough that maybe he could even play some wide receiver, but you don't draft a guy in the first round to switch his positions.
Johnson has a chance to be a very solid NFL player. He has outstanding speed, he can return kicks and punts and has great hands for a running back. He'll be the Titans third-down back from day one and he gives them a home-run threat, a role that Henry was supposed to fill. But three backs is one too many, especially when there are other needs to fill.

1. Watching the Titans for the last few seasons, I personally think that Quinton Ganther is by far the best back that the Titans have, only the politics and money have kept him down, and after personally talking to a handful of Titans players, they (the players) are the ones who got me watching Quinton, and now I am in total agreement with them.
