Russell Martin would probably like to have that one back. The good news is that Danley was conscious and alert when loaded into the ambulance and should be just fine. Seeing an umpire get knocked cold, even with a mask, should probably be enough to convince anyone still on the fence about first and third base coaches wearing helmets that it's a really good thing.

2. ITS B-A-S-E-B-A-L-L
He didn't step on a land mine he got hit by a ball. He's a highly paid, overweight, ego centric. Try being an NHL Ref where you have to WORK. Standing there calling balls & strikes in the most boring sport of all is peanuts. He might as well be opening suitcases for Howie.

3. In response to Guy Ruffner's pearl of wisdom. So you're not a baseball fan. Huh. Never would have guessed. Why don't you keep your comments limited to those few things you know something about. Anyone who officiates at a high level (in any sport) know it takes skill and knowledge. Any ump worth his salt is bouncing around or rotating spots to get in position to make calls properly. The "standing around" that you refer to? Not sure what you're talking about, but if you ever watched a game, you'd see that's not the case at all.

4. Hey LA how about teaching your catcher to catch the ball instead of being a bitch and turning his head cause he's scared.

5. Why in the world would anybody criticize an umpire after being knocked cold from a 96 mile per hour fastball. For God's sake people, the guy was hurt.
Probable concussion and out for some time. Act like human beings and show some compassion.

6. Here's a question? Did the pitch count? No one called a ball or strike so I would guess not. Or maybe it's an automatic ball when the catcher fails to catch a pitch.

8. Who the hell still uses the word peanuts. I mean seriously the guy got hit with a 96 mph fastball. It takes balls to stand back there and not flinch. Guy Ruffner, you have absoluty no idea what you are talking about so such your damn mouth.

9. brainless(oops) brian, must of been a rockies fan.
buddy, you are an ignorant doofus who probably thinks he knows everything. lets see YOU stand back there and try to catch a 96 mph ball and see what YOU do, you wimp! the ump got his marbles jarred a bit. sure it hurt like a sob. hope there is no permanent damage.

10. I agree. Brian, What the hell is your problem? You know damn well that if a 96 mph fastball was coming your way, you would move like a bitch. These guys catch balls faster than that in their gloves, and my guess is you catch them in your mouth.
