I am going to suspend disbelief for a brief moment and pretend that Roger Clemens and Mindy McCready did not have any sort of sexual relationship in the 10 years that they knew each other, when Rocket was allegedly sending her cash and taking her to parties with a slew of 90's related celebrities.
We are, after all, the land of Innocent Until Proven Guilty in America. But even if that is true -- and I have a difficult time believing it because of the conflicting nature of the relationships here -- what business does Roger Clemens have by being "just friends" with a 15-year-old girl anyway?
Rusty Hardin, Clemens' attorney, said Clemens and McCready had a long-term relationship but also told the Daily News it was not sexual in nature. As a 26-year-old male, I can tell you that there is not one single person in my family or group of friends that would approve of me having any sort of relationship with a 15-year-old girl. I suppose it might be alright at age 18, but if I was 31 -- as Clemens purportedly would have been once McCready came "of age" -- there wouldn't be a whole lot of approval-related head nodding happening either.
'He flatly denies having had any kind of an inappropriate relationship with her,' Hardin said. 'He has considered her a close family friend. ... He has never had a sexual relationship with her.'
Hardin also said Clemens' wife Debbie knew McCready and knew the singer had traveled on the plane with the pitcher.
And I am sorry, but we don't live in a world anymore where it's okay to assume that any relationship between a 15-year-old girl and a 28-year-old man is platonic. And even if it is, it is still inappropriate, particularly if that relationship involves trips to Las Vegas and sundry parties with celebrities.
That's where Clemens' credibility on this story is really going to struggle: how is he possibly going to explain how he and McCready became "close family friends"? Because if it involves him meeting her in a Florida bar while drinking beer with his baseball team and watching her perform country music, well, good luck writing that one off to friendship, Roger.

Who cares if you in your petty judgmental ego approve of Roger's private life? Are you any better? The guy is a human being and subject to mistakes and errors like the rest of us. It is only you that created this expectation of perfection in this sports Star. All our stars have clay feet at the end of the day and sit on the same apparatus to excrete waste...like the rest of us. Get over it and stop capitalizing on Roger's humanity. Own your own shadow and the world will be a better place.

Dear Sirs;
What hell the hell business is it of yours (or anyone else's) if Roger Clemens ever slept with anybody? Did it effect his pitching? Did it give him an unfair advantage? Or, as we were warned by the Christian Brothers back in high school, did he lose games because of too much sex? If so, not too many, huh.
I can't believe you people are actually writing about this when you consider what's going on in the world. I don't like Roger Clemens. As a player, he was a choke artist in the clutch, I do think he used steroids and I do think he's lying his ass off about it. But, he doesn't deserve to have his private life pried open and exposed to the world. Think about the embarrassment you people are causing his wife and kids.
You should be ashamed of yourself.
How would you like to have somebody delving into your private life.

Once again we are confusing inappropriate behavior with illegal behavior. It is inappropriate for any 26 year old male to have a "close personal relationship" with a 15 year old girl. Just the appearance inpropriety is unacceptable. If, however, there was a "close personal relationship" that involved anything of a sexual nature. that is illegal; in the state of Texas and most other states of which I am aware. And in most states it is illegal for 15 year old children to perform in bars.

To the 2 previous responders:
Are you serious?! The one guy says at the end of the day we all make mistake. Sure, I agree, but not all of us put ourselves into positions that compromise our integrity and make people question our merit and our credibility. Here is a man who was paid millions of dollars to play professional sports and from all the evidence that has come across so far it looks like he cheated to do it well. If he were on Wall Street this would be like insider trading--giving yourself an unfair advantage to succeed. So, when you're a highly paid professional and you get yourself into this kind of position, you have to expect a hell of a lot of criticism and speculation about your character.
Also, the second guy asks whose business it is who Roger slept with. Well, since he is a celebrity and a public figure it's everbody's business! When you put yourslef in the public eye and you make a ton of money from your celebrity status, you forfeit some of the privacy that a "private citizen" enjoys. So, tough luck for the Rocket.
Plus if he did have a sexual relationship with this girl, that might not only be criminal but it also says a lot about his character and his morals and makes it easier to believe he was lying to everyone when he denied steroid use (which is already pretty easy to believe).
Even if he did only have a platonic relationship with her, what the heck is that about? I'm 30 and there is no way I'd be hanging out with a 15-18 yr old girl. Doesn't it seem a little odd? And isn't that something that the media should pick up on and investigate? I think so. Once again, he is a celebrity and his private life is one thing but if he is going out and having a relationship with a young girl in public....fair game!
All you guys who say he should be left alone are crazy. He made his fortune as a public figure and off of his image; if he is a cheater (pro and on his wife) then what he was paid for was a sham and the public should know.

Clemens denying the affair kind of reminds me of him telling the world that he would never take steroids but his wife did! Who buys that! If he was adamantly opposed to steroids, I don't think he would have let his wife do them.
The bigger question is this man that swears under oath that his wife and his kids mean more to him than anything, didn't mind hurting all of them by being unfaithful for a decade. So much for credibility!

I never have been a fan of Roger's, but where was this New York Newspaper all of these years??? He was pitching for Boston when this was suppose to start happening and they never said anything when he pitched in pinstrips or even after he bolted to the Astros. I always have a problem with the famous UNNAMED source.

Mind your own business.
If the girl's parents, and Roger's wife, saw nothing objectionable about the friendship, you have no right to judge.
The tone of your article leads me to believe that perhaps YOU have a problem with sexual attraction to young girls.

No doubt if he was bringing her to parties and stuff not to mention meeting her in a bar, he was banging her. It's just common sense even if it is rather disgusting and pathetic. Not really surprised cuz it's Roger even if he was with the Sox back then he's still a scumbag which he truly became even more as a dreaded Yankee.

Ah - Robert. Hmmmmm? (along with the rest of America) you think it's simply a foible for Clemens to bed a 15 year old while he's got a wife and 2 kids at home? Your girlfriend might be ok with that - but not the rest and vastly great majority of American women. But then again - she might be a slut cheating on you. So I'm not sure.
This ain't no common sin. He's a douchebag. And you in your eternal douchebagness endorse him thinking you'll be somehow absolved from your own grossness.

Robert-
What Roger has done is not a case of showing his humanity. He is showing his inhumanity, his creepiness, and his lack of regard for truth, honesty, and all around morals. She obviously doesn't have older brothers, because they would justifiably put his ass in the mud!
But he's innocent until proven guilty... I know, I know. If you're a "great American hero" you get the presumption of innocence...
But if you're some "thug" on an NBA or NFL team...

MISTER Clemens was a public figure when allegations
and filial companionship supposedly occurred. Ms. McCready was a legal child: not a public figure.
A judge may be sympathetic to a McCready claim for Defamation. It appears to be resurrected smut by a
fading newspaper. On the other side, Roger did spend allot of time on the mound.
