Cedric Benson Arrested for Boating While Drunk, Pepper Sprayed in Austin

NFL players get arrested with great frequency and one of their leading crimes is driving under the influence. Cedric Benson likes to march to the beat of a different drummer, though.

The Bears running back was arrested in Austin, Texas by the Lower Colorado River Authority on charges of boating while intoxicated. He then added a charge of resisting arrest to the ledger by arguing with the officers about taking a second Breathalyzer and refusing to wear a life-jacket. The ordeal ended with burning eyes for Benson.
At 9:30 Benson was arrested on his boat, continued to argue with the officer refusing to do what he requested, resulting in the officer using pepper spray on Benson.
That's the most trouble anyone's had stopping Benson since he entered the NFL.

Benson has had two other run-ins with the law. He was arrested for marijuana possession in 2002 but the charges were later dropped and, in 2003, he received an eight-day jail sentence for kicking in an apartment door in search of a stolen plasma television. Both charges this time are Class B misdemeanors.

Benson's 2007 season ended with a broken leg and the team selected Matt Forte in the second round of the NFL Draft as a challenger for his job. The last thing Benson needed was another black mark on his resume, especially if it results in a league suspension that opens the door even wider for Forte.
