I don't want to make any "It's all fun and games until someone gets run over by a car" jokes, because someone is dead. And I don't want to focus on the Red Sox-Yankee "rivalry" when the real issue is the tragic passing of a Nashua, New Hampshire native.
But the reality is that this -- the alleged vehicular homicide committed by a Yankees fan on a Red Sox fan -- is the point where America needs to stand up and tell these Yankee and Red Sox fans to get a life and to get over their ridiculously annoying squabble that they think actually transcends the playing field. Because someone is dead now, and that is beyond absurd.
A woman accused of running down a man in her car after a Red Sox-Yankees argument in a bar never hit her brakes as she accelerated toward the small group he was in, a prosecutor said Monday.Think about how blank-ing ridiculous that is for a second. Apparently, the group of Red Sox fans began chanting "Yankees suck!" at Hernandez, prompting her to drive really fast at the group, purportedly expecting them to move out of the way of her speeding car.
"She never braked, and she accelerated at a high speed for about 200 feet. She went directly at this group of people," prosecutor Susan Morrell said of Ivonne Hernandez, who is charged with reckless second-degree murder in the death early Friday of Matthew Beaudoin, 29.
[...]Authorities won't describe the argument beforehand in Slade's Food & Spirits, but witnesses said it heated up when Hernandez identified herself as a New York Yankees fan. Nashua, 45 miles northwest of Boston, is Red Sox country.
Drunk people do stupid things all time time. And Red Sox and Yankees fans are beyond annoying. And heretofore, the only collateral damage from this played out rivalry was some chunks of concrete and the rest of us miserable, suffering baseball fans. But we are talking about a human life here.
Please, Yankees and Red Sox fans -- and I know that this doesn't apply to every single one of you, but the insane attitude of hatred is at least there in some small amount -- grow up. Seriously. Someone's dead. Just stop.

Hutch, You're a typical red sox fan. Nothing intelligent to say so you blame it on the yankees or their fans any way possible.

I am a Sox fan, and yes I hate the Yankess, but I would never run a Yankee fan over with my car. This woman obviously had problems that had nothing to do with baseball. I agree that the rivalry does get out of hand sometimes, but this woman is nuts regardless of what team she supports.

Here I am complaining about some beer chucking drunks at a nascar race in Richmond, VA. And some stupid drunk decided he was going to run somebody down over a game. Damn! What is the world we live in going to be like when our kids grow up? I've been to Yankees vs Redsox games at Fenway I've never seen anything even close to that up there or even at Yankees stadium.
I think anyone involved in any kind of violent behavior at all in a sporting event should never be allowed to enter another sporting event of any kind for life like a registered felon. I'm just guessing here but something has to be done about this or there is no end this crap.

This is absolutely insane - I'm a Yankee fan, and a good friend of mine from college is a Red Sox fan from Nashua NH. We've remained friends for ~20 years after college, and poke fun at our rivals, but have always respected the game for what it was. I feel very embarassed to call myself a Yankee fan now. Like road rage, this has gone way too far.

What's the difference between a dead dog in the road and a dead Red Sox fan?
There are skid marks for the dog.

If A Red Sox fan call yours truly "Yankees suck" I'll answer it by saying "No wonder Hugo Chavez 'loves' President Bush or Mariano Rivera thinks the same way except he plays knows keep your allies close and your enemies even closer." Killing a fan over a childish insult is not right. You shall not murder.

This is ridiculous. I am a yankees fan and my boyfriend is a red sox fan, we've been together for almost 5 years, and while baseball season can be a war zone at my house, usually only when they play each other, we both have a healthy respect for each others teams. Lets face it, there's the Yankees & the Red Sox, and then there's Everyone else. And I'm sure that there was alot more going on with this obviously unstable woman than just a sports rivalry, anyone who is a fan of either team has been on the short side of the stick at one time or another. All this article is going to do is needlessly bias other baseball fans against yankees and red sox fans, and thats just silly, it has nothing to do with either baseball organization and everything to do with an unstable woman who apparently was a ticking time bomb and would have gone off for any reason eventually. p.s. for not wanting to focus on "the rivalry" the author certainly did just that.

DUDE.... EVERYONE who is not a fan of either of these teams hates them! Grow up yankees and red sox fans. Boston fans are annoying as heck (the new white trash team of the MLB) while yankees fans are just the same so stuck up its unreal. Why they are stuck with all the championships is fact. But fact is that they have had the highest payroll and blew the last few seasons with all stars! Both teams need to grow up!
