It all started so innocently for Casey Mears Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway. As he came off of turn four, he'd slide up to the wall and cross the start/finish line to complete lap 355.
Trouble was, Michael Waltrip was there, and when Mears came across the nose of the No. 55, Waltrip was none too pleased and displayed it by pushing Mears down the straightaway and into the turn one wall. Follow along below at 0:13:
For the blatant contact following Mears' incidental mistake, Waltrip was parked by NASCAR for the remainder of the race, relegating him to a 37th-place finish.
Mears said this week that he was happy with the punishment handed out, and NASCAR also said that they wouldn't pursue any further sanctions against Waltrip mainly because the penalty cost Waltrip quite a few points.
As I stated in the previous blog post, this effort out of Waltrip seems to be a near-yearly occurence after he gets into a disagreement with a fellow driver. He just simply overreacts, and in this case, used his car ultimately as a weapon.
All of this, of course, goes back to one question.
Do you think Waltrip is upset with the people he meets at autograph signings?

1. Waldrip is a total jerk both on and off the track. He suffers from a severe " God " complex and needs help. Of course the jerks who run NAPA must be just as bad or they wouldn't fund or toloerate his bad behavior. Works for me....

2. Oops, left off the r in tolerate, hmmm maybe I should increase my fiber intake. By the way, I comment on almost every article, but for some reason my replies never get posted. Must not work for me....

3. DON'T FEEL SO BAD EMERSON. Your blogs are not the only one.Mine just fly high in to the clouds off/on.
Dose not work for me either.WALTRIP AND SMEARS have already made up after the race. The story was on YAHOO.COM SPORTS-NASCAR, always faster than AOL SPORTS in bringing the storyes to the fans.Works for me.

5. Mears got what he had coming to him! If you're gonna pull a stupid ass move then you should be prepared for the repercussions.
PS - Don, A lot of my stuff never gets posted either. I never receive the conformation e-mail.

6. Don, you claim Waltrip is a jerk both on and off the track but I beg to differ on that one. The Waltrips are hometown boys and I have met both of them several times. Mikey is just like he is in his interviews and commercials, likeable and funny. Darrel on the other hand always came across as a smart-ass, loudmouth, know-it-all.

8. Don, loved that you replied to my fiber intake joke on this blog. You do know I was teasing you, right?
I have never heard that Waltrip was a Jerk off the track, but this move was definitely uncalled for not to mention dangerous.
Geoffrey, LOVED the comment at the bottom! I must say Waltrip's ads where he makes fun of himself are quite entertaining indeed.

9. Normally, I am suspicious when fans state that certain drivers are jerks. If you are a regular reader of the Hartford Courant then the reporter wrote a very compelling article about the two sides of Mikey.
Mikey should have been parked because it was dangerous.

10. LOL Hey Don, I bet your reply to my post is the one that didn't get posted. Right? You might have some of these people fooled but you don't fool me ole boy. The next time you want to impress us with your racing knowledge, do a little research so you don't come off looking like a damn fool. Duh!

12. It takes some very good in car coverage to see that waltrip is a menace to nascar. I can clearly see that mears came up high out of the turn but if waltrip had just got 4 new tires and was hooked up, then he could see how fast he was catching mears and should have adjusted accordingly. I have been racing 34 years and shlt happens but waltrip is a washed up has been that should get the hell out of a race car and give the up and coming drivers a chance to make the show. His name does not mean anything anymore and it really sux that he gets to stay in the car just because of his name, and the same goes for kyle petty!!!!!!!

13. Did any one see Mikey on this Week In Nascar on Monday, when he was talking about his wreck with Casey? He said he didn't think he did anything wrong!!! I"ve never seen that side of Waltrip.

14. I met Michael at Atlanta in October 2007. I had high hopes going into the event (from watching Inside Nextel Cup) and was sadly disappointed in him. He wasn't very talkative and seemed in a hurry to leave. He just didn't seem as interested as some of the other drivers at the event.

15. I know that these drivers rely heavily on their spotters, due to the new saftey regulations within the cars. Basically, they can't see. I believe that Casey's spotter was not doing his job, otherwise, this would not have happened. Waltrip runs in the wall most of the time, so I really don't know what he is so upset about.

16. mikey is running on the waltrip name.Sr saw something there and if i had not seen the love he shows his girls id think he was very shallow. he should watch joe gibbsand maybe hired little busch instead of jarett

17. Mears needs a new spotter and Waltrip needs a car horn. Beep Beep

18. What ever became of the wreck Mikey had when he was drunk and left the scene off and walked home and showered in the pool house. The outcome of that has been very quiet. Was he fined or given a pat on the back by law enforcement after a big donation to the police force?
