Greg Bishop of the New York Times reports that former New England Patriots employee Matt Walsh has sent the NFL eight videotapes showing the play-calling signals of five opponents in six games from 2000 to 2002. But Walsh does not have a tape of the St. Louis Rams' walk-through practice prior to the 2002 Super Bowl. The most explosive accusation against the Patriots and coach Bill Belichick in the Spygate story was the Boston Herald's report that they taped the Rams' final practice before the Super Bowl. Walsh's lawyer said this about that:
"Mr. Walsh has never claimed to have a tape of the walk-through. Mr. Walsh has never been the source of any of the media speculation about such a tape. Mr. Walsh was not the source for the Feb. 2 Boston Herald article."We can't say much without knowing the precise content of the eight tapes, but right now, this sounds like good news for the Patriots and Belichick. If all Walsh can show is what we already knew -- that the Patriots were taping opponents in violation of league rules -- the NFL is unlikely to tack on additional discipline.

It does make you wonder who the Herald's source was on that. That's a pretty specific, inflammatory thing to say on the eve of the Super Bowl.
So, it wasn't Walsh who fessed up on the Rams thing...but who was it? It's good news for Pats fans that Walsh doesn't have the goods, but it makes you wonder who does.
Walsh talking doesn't tidy up Spygate like we thought it would. Pats fans will be happy and Pats haters will say that this isn't a done deal.

Should've known he didn't have the smoking gun. If he did, he'd have produced it much earlier. Or, hell, put it on the market.
Doesn't mean Belicheat didn't cheat, just matter of degrees of cheating.

Which other teams were caught on tape? It might not have meant a Superbowl but it could have been a divisional or conference win.

Just a bunch of hot air from a former Patriot employee who has an ax to grind just like former beauty queens and former gymnasts get on television to cry foul about how they got worked to death to get their looks for television jobs.

seems like the afc championship game is a big deal to me. Its proves that kraft, his organization. his players, and his coach are nothing but cheats. They should be heavily fined for each tape.... belicheat should be suspended from the league for 2 yrs, and the teams that they taped out to be compensated. robert kraft sent a message to kids everywhere its ok to cheat and lie your way to a superbowl. No wonder tom brady looked so good.... he didnt look so good against the giants............. now did he

We can't say untarnished yet Tedfio1 and unless you have inside info which I'm gonna guess you don't, you might want to wait before beating your chest. If the Pats are vindicated we should give them their due. I've watched this game for way to long not to respect their accomplishments.

I wonder why Walsh allowed everyone to broadcast for so long about how he had the tape of the walk through ilf he didn't. Why didn't he squash that rumer as soon as it surfaced? It makes you wonder if he didn't enjoy the fact that people were publically speculating that he was the source of that rumor.
I don't think he could have been sued for calling a press conference to announce that he did not start the rumor. I don't remember him ever denying this before.
For the record I am a Giants fan, do not like Belichick, and I am in favor of punishing any infraction he might be guilty of.

I'll beat my chest, lol.
One, I said all along that he had nothing new.
Two, I said we should question the source of John Tomase's report for the Ram's walk through thing.
And I'll say it yet again. The taping they did do, was no big deal in the first place.

That putative tape of the Rams' Super Bowl walk through is about as real as Bigfoot or UFOs. Walsh allowed everyone to believe that it did exist, and despite the denials from his lawyers, I'd bet he was the anonymous source of the Boston Herald report, too. That guy is a mega-loser. He basically stole those tapes from the Patriots, and if he hadn't, this whole story would have been over months ago. Enjoy the next week or two all you Patriot haters. This story is dead now that the loser has come clean.
