MLS Power Rankings: Week 6

The table has certainly begun to settle coming out of Week 6. The Eastern teams continue their rise to the top while the West watches its side sink to the bottom. Meanwhile, the contenders and pretenders begin to surface. While its definitely too early for this kind of talk, teams like Columbus and Chicago are certainly helping out their cases for the playoffs considering their late season battling in 2007. Teams like DC and Houston, on the other hand, are digging themselves some mighty holes. In between, teams like KC, Colorado, and New York are still trying to find some consistency.

Full rankings and Chivas bashing after the jump.
#(LW) Team The Table
1(3)

Columbus Crew
Last Week: W 2-1 vs Kansas City Season: 5-1-0, 15 pts
Top of the league, top of the table. Its too much to ignore, now that the Revs have been torched at home and the Crew put together a nice win against the Wizards.
2(4)

Chicago Fire
Last Week: W 3-0 at New England Season: 4-1-1, 13 pts
A fine showing at New England catapults the Fire in this week's rankings. Let's see if they can bounce back on the short week to take on DC at RFK tonight.
3(1)

New England Revolution
Last Week: L 0-3 vs Chicago Season: 3-3-1, 10 pts
The best of the 10 point teams in the East, the Revolution still have a lot of upside, and are still sporting a better resume than TFC and KC.
4(5)

Toronto FC
Last Week: D 1-1 vs New York Season: 3-2-1, 10 pts
TFC gains some ground since we can't really reward the Wizards for losing. An ugly draw in even uglier weather, but TFC was in it all the way. A quantum leap from last season.
5(6)

Kansas City Wizards
Last Week: L 1-2 at Columbus Season: 3-3-1, 10 pts
We really hope the Wizards can put it back together and regain their early season form. Until then, they are becoming ripe for a freefall.
6(2)

FC Dallas
Last Week: D 0-0 at San Jose Season: 2-1-3, 9 pts
FC Dallas needed to have a better showing out West. A scoreless draw against an expansion team that only managed one shot on goal? Not good enough.
7(-)

LA Galaxy
Last Week: D 2-2 at RSL Season: 2-2-2, 8 pts
Here by the grace of Beckham lands LA. This spot probably would have gone to Salt Lake if they could have kept him from tying things up single handedly.
8(9)

Colorado Rapids
Last Week: W 2-0 vs DC Season: 3-3-0, 9 pts
A fine win against DC at home, but that accomplishment is drawing less and less water these days.
9(8)

Red Bull
New York
Last Week: D 1-1 at Toronto Season: 2-1-2, 8 pts
If someone has to look bad in that TFC match, it has to be the Red Bulls. Injuries or not, fans have to be expecting more from them.
10(-)

Real Salt Lake
Last Week: D 2-2 vs LA Galaxy Season: 1-3-2, 5 pts
RSL is THIS close to making some waves in the West. The defense seems good enough, but they still need some scoring help.
11(-)

CD Chivas USA
Last Week: D 0-0 at Houston Season: 1-3-2, 5 pts
Chivas still swimming in mediocrity. Where will they be if Brad Guzan is still on the way out?
12(-)

DC United
Last Week: L 0-2 at Colorado Season: 2-4-0, 6pts
DC is saved from the basement by only the expansion Quakes and the winless Dynamo, but at least they're jerseys look nice and German now.
13(-)

San Jose Earthquakes
Last Week: D 0-0 vs Dallas
Season:
1-3-1, 4 pts
A "good" result for the Quakes in their new temporary home, but they are going to need a lot more offense if they plan on making any progress in 2008.
14(-)

Houston Dynamo
Last Week: D 0-0 vs Chivas Season: 0-2-4, 4 pts
The Dynamo failed to score a single goal at home against Traffic Cone CD Chivas USA. If this isn't the bottom for Houston, its awfully close.
