Question: Why aren't Yankees fans fired up with frustration this season? The team is three games under .500 and they've taken up residence in the lonely AL East cellar.Answer: I do not know.
After getting rained out last night, the Yanks played the Mets at home today, and it was an important game for both teams. The Mets' recent slide has many fans speculating that Willy Randolph's job may be on the line at this point, and the Yanks simply need to prove to themselves that they can indeed score some runs. Despite giving up three homers -- to Jeter, Abreu, and Giambi -- Santana held the Yanks off and led his team to a 7-4 victory.
After today's game, the Yanks have lost six of their last ten and have only scored a measly ten runs in the last 45 innings, a particularly low total when we take the fine performances of Jeter and Matsui into account. The pitching hasn't been helping either; they've given up 22 runs in the past five games alone.
Last year at this time, Yankees fans had whipped themselves into a panicked frenzy, convinced that the team was destined to watch the post-season on Jeter's 100" plasma screen rather than participate in the good times. So why the lack of panic this year? What is the difference in the fans' minds? Is it because they learned their lesson last year and have decided to be more patient before committing to a freakout? Or are we all onvinced things will turn around once A-Rod and Jorgie make their triumphant returns? Or is it perhaps a show of faith in Girardi?
Are YOU worried?

1. Chicklet
If you watched carefully, Andy Pettite had a melt down in the 3rd inning after mowing down the Mets in innings 1 and 2. Why would you, after facing the lineup the first time and striking out 4-5 with high heat continue to throw high stuff the second time through. HELLO ANDY!!!the Mets adjusted HELLO!!!
Excuse me....Can anybody help me here?...Who is watching Farnsworth besides me???anybody?...HE absolutely sucks..can't any Yankee brass see this?..Also...who is calling Joba's pitches for him???Joe Torre?...gets 2 strikes and then challenges with a #1 down the gut?? You have to be out of your fkn mind!!!constantly giving up crucial hits after getting 2 outs...Dave Eiland is shaping up to be a complete idiot. Girardi...show some emotion for Gods sake!!!Your becoming worse than Tom Renney.

2. One more thing
For the first time since the late 70's I'm seeing this Yankee team look comfortable after a loss. It makes me sick....You can tell me that they are pissed, but they look like they actually don't give a sht and some baseball God will appear in the late future and win it all for them....let me know how that works out for you Brian..ok?

4. Chicky-do, maybe the fans are facing reality that the Yanks are getting old and will suck all year since Hank is calling the shots.

Don't blame Hank...This is Cashmans team. Hank is a very smart experienced baseball man and will pick the right time to step in and make changes...GM included I hope.

6. Actually Farnsworth has been doing pretty good the last couple of games. Then he comes out today and abandons his fastball and gets jacked twice.Stay with the fastball dumbass.Win #5 for Johan today.Let's compare that to the total number of wins for Kennedy/Hughes...........ZERO!!!!!!!!
But no Crashman,we don't need a good lefty starter.
By the way John..I agree with you 110% especially about Renney

9. I think it's pretty obvious why the Yankees are suckin it up right now. They're eating too much. Hard to believe, I know, but Hankie Steinbrenner confirmed as much earlier this week.

10. I'm not worried because so far the season has been unseasonably cold. Players, especially veterans take longer to get going, usually after the temperature rises. You'll see the other pretenders swoon and fade once the temperature gets hot. Yankee manager Joe Girardi will manufacture runs which will keep his team out of a slump once we get into summer. You'll notice that the players from other teams who are slower will look like they're pulling a plow. What I like best about the Yankees is that they're first four hitters in the lineup are speedy. (Damon, Jeter, Abreu, and A-Rod). Now Chien Ming Wang and Mike Mussina are taking the page of the Whitey Ford-Catfish Hunter book in not lighting up the radar gun by getting the ball to break and sink. Rasner looks like he's also learning that. It's harder to hit a pitch that moves in the mid-80s than a straight 100 mile per hour pitch. The Yankees need to be patient with their 4th and 5th starters as they develop. They'll eventually learn to trust their fielders. Farnsworth now getting comfortable in New York(finally) will mean that the bullpen will nearly be lights out with Joba and Mo closing the door against the opposition in the late innings. In the past, it was said a team has time to make a run to make it to the top of the standings on July 4th. But also take a look how many teams have folded in September. My only real worries going into the season were if Mussina, Pettitte and Rivera were over the hill. They're not. If the Yankees do get starting pitching, I hope they don't give up a young player. They can pick up Barry Zito from the Giants for a discout prices as he's another veteran off to a slow start. That's why they play 162 games(remember 1978).

11. C'mon Yankee fans, you think you have problems? The Mets have two old tired starting pitchers in Martinez and El duque we're lucky to get 5 innings out of them when they're healthy! We also have Moises Alou who has a consistent bat but can't play 25 games without a new injury.
Omar Minaya has to start thinking of letting the players with their best years behind them walk. Let the younger players run with it sink or swim, the talent is there the patients obviously isn't on the part of the Mets top brass, the Mets potential lead off trio of Reyes, Pagan, Beltran is faster than the Yankees Damon, Jeter, A-rod any day, not to mention Castillo somewhere in the line up and Endy Chavez.
We have more speed but we don't know what the hell to do with it. The Mets also have more power but the power has not come around, David Wright is the only one hitting for any power. Delgado, Beltran, Alou, Church, nothing doing. Both teams are playing below par by a long shot.

12. John, I hope you are right but Cashman does not have final say on things, that is up to Hank and Dad.

Thats what I said...GM included right?
After watching 2 of those games, I think the Yankees must really suck because I wasn't the least bit impressed with the Mets.

14. WHAT THEY NEED IS a slap hitter or #2 that walks and steal basees constantly……
NOT another fly ball , line drive hitter I agree!@ Damon is NOT leadoff hitter anymore!!!
he’s a numb3r #3 hitter and we have two of them already in Jeter NOT a #2 and Abreu
SOLUTION? TRADE DAMON!
I’m sorry Damon IS NOT A LEADOFF HITTER ANY MORE .270-15 HR, 75 RBI-12 SB under 380 OBP ? and we already have a 3 , 5 and 6 hitter all leftys too!
Two guys I think that would defenetely turn this team around and could be had and not too expensively are Willy Taveras and Mark Grudzielanek
they would add instant excitement to a sluggish offense especially Willy Taveras )reminesecent( of……………
TRADE DAMON NOW TO COLORADO!
….. IF THEY”LL TAKE HIM? ONE OF THE 3 CORNERS HAVE TO GO
…I SAY KEEP ABREAU AND MATSUI !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
……….PACKAGE A JB COX OR EVEN A CHASE WRIGHT WHOM I LIKE… IF NEED BE…YOU’RE NEVER GOING TO USE THEM ANYWAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!
YOU KNOW YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE TO GO AFTER C.C. NEXT YEAR ANYWAY!
THE ONLY UNTOUCHABLES ARE JOBA, JETER AND HUGHES AS FAR AS I’M CONCERENED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

15. Can yankees fans ever admit their team might be worse than the mets, the mets have been playing like crap and they destroyed the yanks, the problem is all the yankees laid off their steroids so now we truly see what their worth, nothing, they suck admit it, mets aren't doin good but they killed the yankees even after being robbed a 3 run homer in sundays game!
