The Celtics have embraced the role as the league's best team for 82 regular season games and 14 playoff games. But now, on the eve of the Eastern Conference Finals, Paul Pierce is changing his tune:
"I think we probably will be the underdog," Pierce said, "knowing that Detroit has been there. They won a championship with this group and are used to going to the Eastern Conference finals and this is just our first trip."No seriously, he said that -- NECN has the video if you want proof. The same guy who popped jersey on Detroit's home floor after a meaningless regular season win is now respectfully and humbly deferring to his more experienced rivals.
Not surprisingly, sportsbooks aren't exactly following suit: according to Bodog, the Celtics are 4.5 point favorites tonight. In terms of winning the title, the Celtics face 2/1 odds compared to Detroit's 4/1. For what it's worth, the Spurs face the same odds as Pistons, while the Lakers are the favorite with 13/10 odds.

Paul Pierce is trying to get his teammates fired up to beat up the Pistons and go to the national championship series either versus the Spurs or Lakers.

What else is he going to say? He is trying to be humble and he doesn't want his team to take Detroit for granted.
