Ryan Church Somehow Avoided a Concussion

Ryan ChurchRyan Church didn't get his clock cleaned by Yunel Escobar, he had his clock smashed into tiny little bits and set on fire. In case you missed it, Church took an inadvertent knee to the head from Escobar while trying to break up a double play last night. The hit was so nasty that he was briefly hospitalized in fear that he suffered his second concussion of the year.

Somewhat amazingly, though, Church is going to walk away from this without any real injury. From Adam Rubin of the New York Daily News:
Church said this event pales in comparison to his spring-training collision with Marlon Anderson, though he acknowledged being very briefly knocked out. Church said he was still chewing on "little rocks" in bed last night. He spent just 40 minutes at Piedmont Hospital, said a CT scan was clean and disputed any suggestion he suffered a concussion.
He still has a headache, but that was a no-brainer. He could return to the lineup as soon as Thursday, which is great news for the Mets. Somewhat surprisingly, Church has been one of the team's best hitters this year, hitting .311 with nine home runs and 35 RBI. He's on pace to hit 35 home runs and drive in 123 runs, which is pretty incredible for a guy who set career-high marks last year with 15 and 70, respectably.
