Bulls fans should still be reveling in Bacchanalia at their favorite team's lucky bounce in Tuesday's draft lottery. But as Blog-a-Bull's Matt gamely points out, the Chicago media is allowing no such celebration by asserting ridicule-worthy suggestions for GM John Paxson. One scribe in particular, the Arlington Heights Daily Herald's Barry Rozner, deserves special scorn for this abomination:
Maybe the best move is to deal the pick and get three from New Jersey (10, 21, 40), rebuilding the team and finding a star in a trade, but that kind of radical thinking doesn't seem possible given Paxson's deliberate nature.Suggesting an insane trade like that is one thing. (And such a trade would be insane -- this isn't the NFL, where picks #21 and #40 are more likely to be contributors. This is the NBA, where #1 picks are cheap on the payroll and actually form the cornerstones of dynasties.) But Rozner actually comes away chastising Paxson for being a guy unwilling to make a radical move like forfeiting the top pick for lesser assets.
This is not rocket science. You make the pick. Either choice is a good one, and in this singular decision, there really isn't a wrong pick. Let context influence your decision (i.e. Kirk Hinrich's trade value vs. Drew Gooden's trade value) and maybe even hire a coach and get his input. But seriously, there's no way you trade this pick for anything anyone's going to offer. No way.

I think they should trade the pick to the Sonics for Delonte West and Wally Szczerbiak. Yeah I know neither of those guys actually plays for Seattle/OKC anymore, I just want Kevin Durant to have a point guard like Rose to team up with.

The question is how many of these guys will deliver ??
Another Patrick Ewing that never delivered 1 championship to NY ??
Or Lew Alcindor ( Kareem ) that delivered 4 to LA ? originally was drafted by the Bucks.
That is the question.

Chicago's whole problem is that they have a bunch of pretty good players and no great ones. If they drafted Rose, who will be great, then they will have one great player who will turn his "pretty good player" teammates into very good players. Rose is transcendent. Anyway, it's hard to imagine the stupidity necessary to contemplate giving up the top pick and adding the 10th, 21st, and 40th picks to the mix. Adding three more pretty good players to a cast of eight pretty good players? Meh!

Let's not forget that Paxson is not the smartest guy in the world. His kids had to tell him that he even had a chance at #1. Guess he did not have the time or else didn't care where the Bulls drafted.

The answer is a three way deal with Chicago, Miami and Seattle. Miami gets Seattle's 4th pick, plus any two players not named Durant or Green- and Seattle's first round pick next year. Chicago gets Miami's 2nd pick (Beasley) and Seattle's other first round pick this year- and Presti gets Rose. If necessary, Presti can throw in a second rounder or two to sweeten the deal, maybe take a reasonably short unwanted contract off of Miami or Chicago's hands. Hide, watch, and see if this doesn't happen.

Chicago needs both a PG and a big inside guy what about a deal with NY for Zach Randolph for Kurt Zach is big he can score inside and get boards then Rose is your PG
