It was mentioned last week that Troy Polamalu is going back to California this offseason to resume the intensive unconventional workouts that served him so well early in his NFL career. The explanation is that Polamalu's workout routine involves lots of repetitions with very little weight. The emphasis is developing explosiveness instead of strength and bulk.
But if you want a better explanation of what exactly Polamalu is doing this spring and summer, he explains it all in this video. It shows him doing some long reps of various exercises you won't see at your average Gold's Gym. It's also pretty cool to see that Troy's just as unassuming as you would expect--his workouts are taking place at a gym that doesn't look much more upscale than the one at my old high school.
At his best in 2004 and 2005, Polamalu's best plays were also based on his explosiveness. If his return to his old workout routine can give him a little edge, and help him stay healthier, it's hard not get excited about what Troy may do in 2009.

No wonder Troy is one of the best defensive players on the Steelers. His workout makes him look fast as the Flash.

The gym he is working out at belongs to Marv Marinovich, Todd Marinovich's dad. It is called SportsLab.

Good luck Troy, you'll be on IR by week 10.
With that schedule, you'll be lucky to finish 6-10.

He thinks the Olympic lifts are slow, which proves he does not know what the Olympic lifts are. Probably thinks they are deadlifts, squats, and bench press.

Cool guy - here he is an elite NFL athlete, and he's working out alongside regular people. I mean, shouldn't he be down at Cris Carter's "academy" working out and philandering with the other NFL guys? LOL
Mind if I work in with you there Troy?
