Don't Kiss Your Girlfriend at Safeco Field (Note: Applies Only to Women)

Many a major league ballpark runs a Kiss Cam on the big screen between innings on the big screen. You've probably seen it, they scan the park for couples who then smooch to the roar (or apathy) of the assembled masses. Because of that, I've always assumed that kissing was A-OK at America's ballyards.

Well, either Seattle isn't in America or they've got a real problem with homosexuality. A semi-famous lesbian couple enjoyed a brief peck on the lips at a recent Mariner game and were met with a swift and angry reaction from stadium security.

Backstory: Sirbrina Guerrero, the offender pictured at right on the cover of May's issue of DList, is currently a contestant on MTV's Shot at Love 2 With Tila Tequila. And the at least one mom at Safeco field is not a fan:
"And he (the security guard) goes 'there's a lady whose son says he saw you guys making out, and I did, too. And you have to stop.' And I said 'well, we weren't making out, but we were kissing and I'm not going to stop,'" said [Sirbina] Guerrero.
Guerrero says the only reason she was called out was because of her sexual orientation.
"(The security guard said) the mom doesn't want to explain to the kids why two girls are kissing. So I said 'well, I'm not going to stop, so you'll have to kick me out. So he said 'so I suggest you leave then,"' she said.

They didn't get kicked out, despite Safeco's code of conduct's note that "displays of affection are not appropriate in a public family setting." They also took several pictures of heterosexual couples kissing to point out the double standard.

Clearly the standards should be the same for all fans, regardless of sexual orientation. If stadiums think that the best use of their security forces is rooting out rogue smoochers, then so be it but root them all out. I'd say there are better uses of their time, but it's their dime. Besides, you'd think the Mariners would be happy to learn that their putrid team hasn't robbed the joy and love residing in the heart of at least two of their fans.
