In fairness, Brandon Inge is not blaming his inability to properly lift a pillow for the entire extent of the injury that has him headed to the disabled list. The injury has been bugging him for a while, and this just put it over the top. Because, lifting pillows can be a pretty dangerous activity.
Inge said he aggravated the injury moving a pillow for his three-year-old Monday night. He said if not for that mishap, he probably would have tried to continue to play with the injury, which he said has bothered him since he suffered it on June 1 in Seattle.Yes indeed it is. There are tons of horrible injuries in baseball (meaning stupidly ridiculous ways that the players get hurt) but this is kind of absurd. I mean, sneezing (Sammy Sosa) and Guitar Hero (Joel Zumaya) are at least respectable.
Told of Inge's account of the pillow, Tigers manager Jim Leyland said, "That's a first."
Okay, not sneezing. But if you move your three year old's pillow around and see a vertabrae lying on the ground when you're done, just pull a Vladrad and tell everyone it happened while you were lifting weights or something.

His three year old must have been sleeping on a moving snowboard.

This isn't as strange as it may appear. Several years ago, I bent over to pick up a pair of socks and caused a severe injury to my back. I was put in a molded back brace for 7 weeks, then had to use a cane for an additional 2 weeks.
Being in competitive sports (gymnastics) for several years, I was in great shape physically. This injury was extremely discouraging. Of all people, I know how to bend and move properly...but that day I was careless and it sidelined me for awhile. It was a careless mistake that I have never repeated.

I once bent over to pickup a pencil off the floor and hurt my back. I'm a carpenter and I'v carry thousands of sheets of plywood and drywall and yet I hurt my back picking up a damm pencil. Inge already had his injury. He just reaggravated it when he twisted his body the wrong way moving the pillow. Brandon is as tough as then come.

This same thing happened to me a few years ago. I dropped a pillow and went to pick it up and I wrenched my back and could not move for 15 minutes. Finally I was able to move, but, for a week I was not moving very well or very much. The only thing that helped was heat and ibuprofen!!!
